We, as a team would like to send our condolences to the Person family and friends in this very hard time. He was a very well liked, humble young man that was a positive role model for many.
Man Shot at Gas Station Dies
Rochester Police say 26-year-old Alonso Person of Rochester was shot in the
back while getting gas at the Sunoco gas station at the corner of West Main
Street and Reynolds Street a early Thursday morning. He later died during
surgery at Strong Hospital.
Witnesses say the victim was with a car full of friends and they were heading
home after a night on the town. Police say the gunman is still on the loose
and they think he fled the scene in a car with about three other people. NEWS10
NBC spoke with the store clerk who was on duty when the shooting happened.
He thought it was fireworks at first. "When I came outside I saw that
that happened, I was scared. I told my manager I don't want to work here anymore
..They
could do that, they could do it to me too. It's not a big deal for those guys,
said Kulwinder Singh.
Person was a member of the Irondequoit Sting semi-pro football team. Thursday
night his team mates took the news of his death hard. They were supposed to
practice, but instead the team just tried to deal with their grief.
Rochester Police say they have no motive for the
shooting and very little information. They are asking
anyone with information to call 911.
