| Rollbars. Can't deny they sure make a truck look good. Gives it that "I mean business" look. But do they really serve a purpose? Yes, they do! There are 2 different kinds of rollbars. Actual rollbars(picture above) and what is called headache racks. Both are good to have, with the rollbar being better. A headache rack bolts onto the top lip of your bed fenders and goes up to a few inches above the roof. It is strictly designed to protect your roof's paint job. As in hauling lumber or pipe, you can lay it on the rack with no scratching. Also handy place to put lights. A true rollbar bolts solidly against the frame of your truck. And depending on what it is made from, this makes for very good rollover protection. At least in normal mudrunning mishaps. NOT dependable for highway protection! That is where full, complete, entire Roll Cages come in. But they can be useful in a very slow rollover such as falling off into a set of 44" ruts on one side. And again, they do make a great place to mount KC's or an antenna. And if you feel creative how about this one: One of my friends is a welder and he built his own rollbar. Very nice one, 4" Stainless Steel, completly welded up air-tight. He then drilled a hole in each side tube and screwed in an air hose fitting. 150lbs of air can be a lifesaver when you have a flat in the middle of nowhere! |
