C.B. RADIOS
C.B. Radio (Lifesaver!)
Some people love them, some hate them. Hopefully, you and C.B.'s get along together because this should be one of the very first purchases made. You say you don't know the lingo? You don't have a handle? And that you already have a cell phone? Chances are, nobody you are riding with knows the lingo either, if you don't have a nickname already, you will be quickly given one! And sorry, but cell phones are good to have along in case of real emergencies, but that's about it. Gotta have a C.B.
Reason: You(with 44's) have been chosen to lead the ride, you come to a water crossing(looks deep!), you try it anyway.....1/2 way through, your headlights go under, yet you stay with it and manage to crawl out the other side. Now what? All the truck behind you could tell was that you made it. He's running 38's and 3 others only have 35's. You know they will never make it. Will you turn around and go BACK through it to tell them it's too deep or just get on the radio and tell ALL to look for a shallower crossing spot?
Reason: This trip, you let smaller tires go 1st, leaving yourself at the back of the pack. You come upon a good hole, and knowing all the others have already been through it, you decide to play in it. Next thing you know, you have buried your truck! The guy in front of you ask if he can help, but you tell him, "Thanks, but I got a P.T.O. winch that don't know how to quit!" So you drag out your cable and he catches up with the rest of the pack. You hook on to a tree and engage the winch. The truck moves about 6" foward and
SNAP! There went your cable. And not enough left to reach the tree again! What now? With a radio, all you have to do is get on it and ask for help. Without one..... you have a long, long, long walk ahead of you.

Doesn't need to be an expensive setup, you can get Uniden Kits for around $50. But I would suggest going with a full size SS Whip Antenna. The roof mount magnet types don't last long at all in the woods, and the fiberglass type tend to snap too easily. A whip type mounted on a spring is about as tough as they get.
