Before you start lessons:

For those of you who are interested in recorder lessons for your child or for yourself I recommend visiting another students lesson as a first step. Parents of new students are encouraged to attend one or two orientation sessions without the child to learn about the Suzuki method of talent education. Please call me (515.292.6118) if you are interested to schedule these.

Since I am using the Suzuki Method and Repertoire I ask new students to get the CD as soon as you sign up for lessons. That way you can begin the daily listening right away. I also ask that beginning students play on an Aulos 205A recorder. I do have these recorders available for purchase ($ 8.50 plus tax). Please do not buy an instrument before you start lessons with me. Adult students are encouraged to play on an Alto Recorder, the main instrument for the repertoire of the baroque aera.

Lesson times are scheduled in 30 or 45 min sections. Please call me for available lesson times. Returning students may keep their lesson times. After that, lesson times are assigned on a first come first serve basis.

Lessons are taught in the music room of our home. Students whose lessons follow back-to-back can observe each other during the last 5 minutes. Students are asked to come in quietly about 5 min before your lesson starts, take a seat and watch the student before you finishing up her lesson.

I teach weekly group lessons at my home as an integral part of the Suzuki Method and they are paid for with the tuition payments. Some of the youngest students may not be participating the whole time. However, these students do learn much by just being in the same room and observing or playing quietly.

The semester is concurrent with the public school calendar. Please refer to the studio calendar for dates and the tuition schedule.

  1. Parents are required to attend all lessons until the teacher has determined the student to be an independent learner, or other workable arrangements can be made.
  2. Make-up lessons will be given for teacher absence only, or if schools are cancelled due to weather. If, with reasonable effort, no make-up lesson can be scheduled, a refund for that lesson will be issued.
  3. A registration form is needed for each child.
  4. The tuition is due at the first day of classes each month. (Aug/Sept, Oct, Nov, and Dec. in the fall; Jan, Feb. Mar. Apr. and May in the spring )
  5. All previous fees must be paid in full to enroll for the next semester.
