The only girl in the Laughlin family (except for a cocker spaniel, Theresa), Mandy was named after her mother. Tomboyish and mostly raised by her brothers, she has a romantacised view of the world in general, which she gets from reading romance-mystery novels.
However, she inherited a strong work ethic from her parents (both have full-time jobs), and got a job when she was fifteen working at the C&S-- mostly sweeping up. Her family were already big coffee drinkers and had been regulars at the C&S since it opened, and Crystianne welcomed the help when she applied. Promoted to the position of cashier when she turned sixteen, she enjoys the friendly and somewhat laid-back atmosphere of the coffee shop. She is just as likely to be found at the counter with her nose in a Nora Roberts novel as she is to be actually working. However, she is cheerful and well-liked by all the customers, quick on her feet and uncomplaining about extra hours that are sometimes needed to be pulled because of the far more active (and, in her opinion, interesting) life of her employer Crystianne.
When things start happening at the C&S-- a suspected kidnapping and appearances of mysterious strangers, she is not drawn to the serious happening, but rather delights in the adventure as if she is finding herself in the middle of one of her romance-mystery books. |
