Jamaica

This beautiful island is covered with the gorgeous Blue Mountains, striking plant life, intense green jungles, and misty valleys. Jamaica is located in the Caribbean Sea, just south of Cuba. To get a good sense of how big the island is, it is roughly the size of Connecticut. The capital of Jamaica is Kingston, located on the south-eastern tip of the island. The climate for this region is very tropical, hot, and very humid because it is located near the Equator. Jamaica is mostly covered in mountains and the highest peak is the Blue Mountain Peak reaching an elevation of 2,256 feet above sea level. The main natural hazard that occurs here is Hurricanes, which are usually seen between the months of July and November.

The highest range is the Blue Mountains, which run through the interior, often at heights of over 1,500 metres; Blue Mountain Peak dominates the range at 2,255 metres. The mountains have a temperate climate; warm temperatures (16°C on average) and heavy rains feed the many rivers that rush from the mountains to the sea.
