2006 Excavations were conducted at Liman Tepe only. Work continued both on the land site and underwater. A uniquely well preserved Late Bronze Age Settlement was unearthed for the first time at Liman Tepe. A main road with openings to side roads and various structures on both sides of the road appeared yielding insitu pottery. Many imported and locally made Mycenaean pottery were found along with the local wares. Some zoomorphic vessels, seals and metal finds are among the notable discoveries. A uniquely large crater with bird and possibly fish figures is the highlight of the year.Underwater excavations continued jointly with the University of Haifa and a wooden anchor possibly of Archaic period is discovered during the excavations. Marine geomorphology studies continued in cooperation with McMaster University - Canada and a team from Kiel University - Germany conducted a sysmic survey around the site. IRERP also took part in a joint INA-Ankara University submersible survey around the Urla peninsula. A shelter is planned for Çeşme - Bağlararası site during the year 2006 and its construction is due to start within a few weeks time. |

The fourth season of the joint underwater excavations (Ankara & Haifa Universities), including the geomorphology research by Dr. E. Reinhardt & B. Goodmann (McMaster University, Canada), has been completed. The preliminary reports are in progress. So far an average of 2-3 m. deposit below the sea floor are excavated in different sectors and a well preserved archaic level is recorded throughout the whole site. The deep geological soundings indicate that there is at least a 5 m. cultural deposit below the archaic level. And we hope to reach the earliest phases in the next years, where we already have some Early, Middle and Late Bronze Age sherds from different sectors.

| After another long break, we are back! Hopefully this time it will work and you will be updated more often. This update is coming directly from the excavation house at Liman Tepe - Urla and the excavation is still progressing. During the long absence since the last update, two underwater excavation seasons were carried out together with our Israeli colleagues from the Haifa University. So far archaic remains have been excavated on and around the big breakwater which is submerged in the northwestern part of the site. Geological soundings have also been opened on and around the site including the underwater. More work has been planned for the coming 2002 season. | ||
| Bakla Tepe excavations have been carried out during the 2000 and 2001 seasons as a result of the unexpected decrease in the water table of the Tahtali Dam. Work concentrated on the end of EB2 / Beginning of EB3 pithos cemetery, EB 1 settlement/cemetery and Late Chalcolithic settlement at the site. Preliminary reports of the excavation have appeared as usual in the Kazi Sonuclari Toplantisi journal of Ministry of Culture - Turkey. Various IRERP members have been working on different aspects of the site for their PhD and MA degrees. | ||
| 2000 Excavations at Liman Tepe was concentrated on the EBA settlement. The monumental EB2 horse-shoe shaped bastion has been further investigated and the full extend of this structure has been unearthed. 2001 excavations are still continuing in the northern part of the settlement and new monumental features including an EB2 well are currently under investigation. More news on this comes soon! Preliminary reports were published in Kazi Sonuclari Toplantisi (KST) journal. Various IRERP members are working on different materials from the site for their PhD and MA degrees. | ||
| Systematic regional survey project started during the 2001 season in the Menemen Plain. Extensive and intensive work have been carried out as planned.
