Recent Prehistoric Research in Central-West Anatolia.

Surveys we have carried out since the 1980's in the central region of Western Anatolia have demonstrated that Late Neolithic Settlements were regularly placed along the coastal Aegean and along the caravan routes, on the Hermos, Meander etc river valleys. Accordingly, central-west Anatolia has been shown to have been as densely inhabited in the Late Neolithic Period as the region of "Hacilar". That new research will discover other Late Neolithic or possibly earlier centers should not be suprising.

Results from surveys covering the Chalcolithic and the Early Bronze Age Periods and from the Alasehir-Gavurtepe excavations will be compared with the already published contemporary cultural levels from Beycesultan, Aphrodisias, Kuruay, Demircihyk, Troya, Besik Sivritepe, Kumtepe, Chios, Samos etc in an attempt to clarify the relations between the coastal Aegean and Anatolia.
