Report on:

Charmante

In order to raise funds for the upcoming symposium, the marketing sub-committee had organized this small table event called Charmante on the 1st to the 3rd of March,2000. The event was held outside LT 26, near the Science Canteen of NUS. Only a small table was allocated to the members to sell their items.

In French, Charmante means “charming”.  The event was specially given this name because the goods sold in Charmante were all attractive, adorable items. These goods included hand painted mugs, hand designed photo frames, hand made pet bands, hand made stained glasses, cute animal T-shirts…These items were all prepared by the committee members. The members stayed back in school during their semester break to paint the mugs and glasses. Of course, the marketing sub committee would not have been able to prepare all these items without the help of Sylvia. Sylvia is the “arts and crafts” master in pharmacy, who taught the committee stained glass and mug painting techniques. Besides that, other pharmacy students had also been very supportive. Many volunteered to design the photo frames, paint the mugs and even made the stained glasses. A lot of them also showed their invaluable support by gracing the event and buying all the goods that we made.

Through Charmante, we earned a net profit of S$400.58. The sales were considered good. The committee was pleased with the profits made. But, what pleases the members even more was the friendship that was forged during the preparation of the items and the ‘arts and crafts” skills that was imparted to them by Sylvia. This has indeed brought about vibrant and color to the life of the pharmacy students.

"Oldies But Goodies"

The “Oldies but the Goodies” was another fund raising activity organized by the Marketing sub committee. The event was held on the 23rd July, 2000. During this day, the Marketing sub committee sold the old goods they collected at the flea market in Clarke Quay. The goods were all good but old items like CDs, clothes, bags, soft toys, skirts, clocks. The event lasted from ten to six. The goods were displayed in a homely manner with a small mat in the middle. Credits should be given to Shi Ling who came out with the display and who had volunteered so much in the event. Besides thanking Shi Ling, the Marketing committee had to thank all those pharmacy students who had contributed their old items for sale. Of course, not to forget the publicity committee who helped out in the event.

The committee made a net profit of S$250 for that day.
