 yup that is right, my family now owns a beetle. it is a pretty sweet car. i was happy to find that i can fit in the backseat perfectly. its a little odd when people keep looking at your car as you drive by. don't worry though the party mobile is not done yet.  good on ya goes out to the mighty new south wales blues who beat the queensland maroons 9-8 in state of origin 1. i was excited to catch a replay of the game over the internet thanks to nrl.com.au. they were pretty quick to get the webcast on their site, only took 2 days. timmons came up big time to provide the golden point as well as nsw only try. although there were a lot of new faces, nsw was able to overcome injuries and controvesy to pull it out. at work today i found out that we only have to work until 3 tomorrow and we get monday off! i love memorial day. this saturday we will be checking out the whitesox free of charge thanks to wielzco's hook up.
ever believe that it was capable of raining for 40 days and 40 nights? this past week it seems the television has been beeping non stop with weather warnings. nothing serious has hit our area, but the rain puts a big dent in plans. this weekend was spent avoiding flooded streets, which means it was a movie weekend. friday night katie and i watched the best dance film ever made, you got served. i swear the actors probably had about five lines each. there was no plot, but boy could those kids move. i enjoyed the part when a kid slid across the floor on his head while spinning. yesterday jeff, kristen and i headed to gurnee mills for a little shopping. jeff made the quickest return after only owning a shirt for 2 hours then bringing it back. later that night due to the rain siv came over and we all watched miracle. it stirred up the competitive juices and got me ready for the big brother rice alumni softball league opener today. the only problem was it was rained out. i think its a good thing, we have a little more time to get ready. look out for our team the shockers, we should be terrible but it will be fun.
it was back to work after a fun weekend. friday night timmy and i went to see the epic battle troy. it was nice that timmy was up to date with his greek mythology since a lot of the movie was inaccurate. who cares though, it made for a better flick and some great battle scenes. saturday we had our own epic battle of catch phrase at hynek's. normally i hate playing games, but this time it was a blast. the team i was on won the best of seven three hour marathon 4 to 3. there were some horrible clues and a of insults flying around, but it was all in good fun.
for the past week i have been working downtown for one of the big four accounting firms in the world. doing data entry is pretty repetative but not to bad. a full work day feels like 30 minutes long when you have stacks of information to put into a database. the building is a block north of millennium park, which is starting to take shape. i am also right new chicago's newest neighborhood, lake shore east. from the drawings it looks pretty cool, but it won't be done for a while. besides work not much has been going on. went to go see kill bill again with timmy, doyle and siv. it is a great film, i think it was better than the first. other than that i am getting ready to see troy probably tomorrow night. life is not that exciting when you have to be in bad by 11 to get up by 6am for the train at 7:20am.
 today was the coolest sight i have seen in downtown chicago. while going to get my check from the temp agency katie and i saw the bridge on state open up. this might sound wierd to many who have lived and frequented the downtown area of chicago, but this was my first time. damn, those bridges are tall, plus they move back into place pretty quick. katie was amazed to see that millennium park is almost complete, four years behind schedule. the area looks pretty nice, and the new band shell by frank gehry is amazing. tonight if the rain holds off i am going to help coach sean's baseball team. that is right, just call me coach. although i am sure i will do nothing, probably keep the books. it will be my first time in a dugout since i was 14. i also put a new 10 up about the worst inventions, just scroll down it will be on the left hand side.
happy cinco de mayo to all my latino readers, which is proabably none. chicago is celebrating with the cinco de mayo cup at soldier field. two teams, cruz azul (blue cross) and u.n.a.m. pumas (pumas) will be playing for bragging rights. i would head up there if tickets were not 29 dollars at their cheapest. the last time i saw the pumas play it was a blast. katie tully, tommy and i headed up to their game against the fire back in high school. what an exciting game, 2 fights in the stands and people throwing beer and flamming tennis balls all over the place. i need to get my tickets to the manchester united game this summer. the village has started their renovation of 95th street to make us more like oak lawn. it looks cheap! fake brick sidewalks that look pink, the new lights are just attached to the old ones and the new logo in the middle of kedzie is pointless. you think they would have learned something from oak lawn. nope, were to cheap to put up nice new lights, planters with flowers or widen the sidewalks.
if you found the dave chappelle show funny, and his skit as lil john funny than you will love this, the lil john sound board. for hours and hours of fun just turn up your speakers. i thought this would entertain everyone. today was spent at the golf course playing 18 holes with hynek. i was able to make par on a few holes and bogey two. the rest of my game was pretty bad. hynek made his second eagle ever on one hole. it was fun to watch someone good play.
another week of temping is done. now i have to find another temp position while i check on some full time things. on friday i had a long walk from 55 n. michigan to 400 n. then all the way back to la salle to catch the metra home. i was worn out but it was all worth it to have a check in hand. it is always nice to have money in the bank. today was spent shopping in oak brook with j and his girl friend kristen. we went in to abercrombie and they are pushing pink shirts for guys for some reason. it looked like pink was in every shirt there. also when did girls start wearing skirts that were three inches long. i guess the oc started a new fad with mini mini skirts. last night was shaddy bar night and we ended up at panos. it was great that we got hooked up with some free booze. turns out panos is home of nascar in the area and they have a sunday nascar brunch. no i will never go to it but i thought it was interesting. friday night went to doyle's and then ended up at the vaughn's pub over in the midway airport area. it was a nice little neighborhood bar where we mostly drank for free, because people over bought. i did some updating and put all the april stuff in the april archive. . . . d a n n y � m a y 2 0 0 4 . . . |
