Annual IOC Ohanami Party - Himeji Castle

It's time to kiss the chill of winter goodbye! Let's cast off our heavy coats, throw away our well worn mittens, and put away our heavy boots! Let's step out of the fridge and into the warm fresh air of spring!Yes! It's finally here! What better way to kick-start your spring then at the Annual IOC Ohanami Party on Sunday, April 11th! This year's party will be at Himeji Castle. The meeting time will be announced later, but plan to meet sometime before noon. Before the party begins, we will hike around the temple grounds to work up our appetite. After some exercise, we'll begin our Ohanami Party! This year's party will be a potluck, so please bring one dish to share. Also, please bring a Frisbee if you have one, or any other toys, as the
weather is bound to be great! Hope to see you all there!

Hiking Atago-san, in NW Kyoto

Enjoy a fun-filled day of hiking, sight-seeing, coffee-sipping, sento-bathing, and Izakaya-dining in Kyoto on Saturday, April 17th! If you like to hike while still enjoying the finer things in life, you won't want to miss this fun-filled day of adventure! Our target will be to climb Atago-san, NW of Kyoto City. Meet at the Sanjo Starbucks at 9:00am (come early if you'd like to sit and have a coffee by the river). From there we'll take a bus to Kiyotaki, the trailhead for Atago-san. After a leisurely five hour hike, we will return to Kyoto by bus from the village of Takao. Upon return to Sanjo, we will visit the sento of Shomen-yu, where you'll get a chance to ride an elevator naked! Come on! You can't pass that up! Finally, after soaking our sore muscles and getting cleaned up, we'll hit a nearby Izakaya for food, drinks, and good times! Don't be shy now! Come on and sign on up! You won't regret it!

April 24th/25th | Saturday-Sunday
Cycling | Cycle around the lake Biwako * 1/2

It's time to dust off the tent and time for the first overnight camping event this year - lets follow the coastline  around lake Biwako from Ishiyama to our camp site at <a href="http://www.mapple.net/camp/camp.asp?CampID=25020">
http://www.mapple.net/camp/camp.asp?CampID=25020</a> - second day we continue down the coast, for as long as we please. JR lines run parallel to the shore, so we can jump on the JR just about anytime. This is also an unique possibility for riders wishing to join only one of the two days.

Bring a lunch pack for the first day, lets find a quiet spot near the lake and enjoy the views while we enjoy our lunch. For the evening, lets all bring our share for a BBQ feast so we can really set loose this excellent IOC tradition.

I'm longing to see you on this ride!

Leader: Lars B. Jensen <Join the event!>
Meet : JR Ishiyama at 09:00
Transportation info : Osaka 08:00am - Kyoto 08:29am - Ishiyama 08:57am

Bring : good mood, helmet, spare tube, tools, tent, sleepingbag, eating utensils, bbq food to share (contact Lars to setup who brings what), appropriate clothing for two days, towel etc
Note : Campsite is unconfirmed - I'll call them and book when I know how many will join.

April 29th - May 5th | Goldenweek
Shimanami Kaido and Western Shikoku Cycling and Camping event
**

Opened recently in 1999, the Shimanami Kaido links Onomichi City in Hiroshima Prefecture with Imabari City in Ehime
Prefecture - an unique string of island to island bridges connecting six islands in all - Mukaishima, Innoshima,
Ikuchijima, Omishima, Hakatajima and Oshima. The Shimanami Kaido also - as the only link from Honshu to Shikoku -
allows pedestrians and cyclists to passage.

Beautiful scenery, laid-back atmosphere, friendly prople and several interesting sights is the trademarks of Shikoku
island, Japan's fourth largest island. Shikoku offers elements of traditional Japan, that are often hard to find
elsewhere, like the sacred 88 temple pilgrimmage dating back more than 1000 years.

Leader: Lars B. Jensen <join the event!>
Meet: Fukuyama Station, 29th at 08.00
Cost: 10-15.000 for Shinkansen out and overnight ferry home + lunch/dinner

Note: As it seems Goldenweek is fluid in Japan, it will be possible to join 30th or possibly 1st April, at
Imabari using overnight ferry from Rokko Island in Kobe. Contact for further details.
