Artist Statement

My work stems from unwanted and discarded materials. I try to bring the materials past into play, juxtaposing the materials or finding an aesthetic relationship to express my underlying feelings about society, culture, environment, interpersonal relationships and so on. The materials I use are fairly random, from the car parts I may find on my walk home to the used sanding belts I found wadded in the corner of the sculpture studio. I gave them a new purpose and opportunity to be resurrected and metamorphosed into something completely different.

The process of exploration in art is one I delight in. Compositional, spacial, and conceptual relationships leave much to be discussed. I feel that my work has many levels from the obvious to the unknown or subconscious. Although my art seems simplistic, careful thought is taken to achieve a balance between negative space and color choices to overall design composition. I do not try and achieve a state of perfection in my works, rather I delight in the imperfections that reflect humanity as we all are not perfect and our imperfections are what make us unique unto ourselves.

I was born in Santa Fe, N.M, and moved here to finish school and hopefully will be able to transfer to an art school to complete my M.F.A . in sculpture and installation art.

Bio

Born in Albuquerque in 1974 to a single mother. Attended public school and put in special ed in the fifth grade. His artistic ability was shown as a young child when he would take his toys apart and make new ones with the pieces, often painting them. Later on in high school he started playing Dungeons and Dragons, mostly to collect the lead figurines and paint them. Building models and drawing were his pastimes while living in the east mountains.

Drawn to political satire, punk rock music and skateboarding were constant in his life. Considerd a troubled student due to his high intelligence and awareness of the declining morals in politics and corporate control of society. Feeling abandoned by his parents and teachers, he began withdrawing and ended up working in hardware stores and doing construction, after getting kicked out of school because he wasn't like the other kids. He went back to school to get his diploma at an alternate high school.

Living on the streets was no easy task but allowed a perspective on life that most people don’t know. He fund his sculptural ability At the college of Santa Fe, N.M, where his first sculpture “modern falkure” won the student show and a purchase award and now is on permanent display at the school.

Currently in attendance at Lane CC. He plans on transferring to a four year school to obtain his MFA.
