50 years later, a girl from the current day named Kagome Higurashi on her 15th birthday was pulled down into the bone eaters well by a demon. She she passed through the well, she found herself in a different area. She called for her grandfather and brother Souta but they didnt come. She climbed out of the well and ended up in front of the sleeping hanyou Inu yasha. She then touches his ears, btu quickly stops when arrows come flying by her barely missing. She was taken to the village miko Kaede who noticed she looked quite a bit like the long dead elder sister of Kaede, Kikyou/Kikyo. When the youkai from before attacks, Kagome run from the village since she knows it's after her.
Kagome makes it to Inu yasha who then awakes upon smelling Kagome's scent. He thought that she was Kikyou, the one who had killed him. After discoverng that she wasnt, he compared her to Kikyou but after Kagome released he stopped and began to fight the youkai. However, the youkai bites Kagome and revealing the shikon no tama open and out of her body. Inu yasha defeats the youkai but since his desire for the shikon no tama, he threatens to attack Kagome. But, Kaede puts a rosary around his neck and with the phrase "Osuwari!" or "SIT!" Inu yasha becomes subdued.
about a day after all of this happens, a bird youkai steals the shikon no tama from Kagome, and swallows it. When it's leg falls off after a long struggle, Kagome grabs the leg, attaches it to an arrow and shots it at the bird. Since the bird's limbs were to regenerate, Kagome knew it would hit. However, once it hit the bird youkai a bright light shined and then, what seemed like shooting stars flew through out the sky. later, they discovered infact that it was the shikon no tama which had been destroyed into mear shards.
It was then Kagome and Inu yasha set out to restore the shikon no tama into a whole. However, along the way, obstickles challenge them, such as Naraku, Sesshoumaru/Sessho-Maru/Sesshomaru and strong youkai which they have to fight to get back the shards. But also along this journey, Kagome and Inu yasha pick up friends along the way, the taijaya Sango, the letcherous preist Miroku and small kitsune Shippo/Shippou.
