| Japan is prone to a number of natural disasters that are uncommon in other parts of the world, including earthquakes, typhoons, and tsunamis. Although these disasters are relatively rare, a little bit of preparation will go a long way in ensuring the safety of you and your family. |

| Be Prepared |
| Keep the following in mind to be prepared: -Know where the safest place in your house/apartment is. -Secure things like bookshelves, TVs, dressers, and cabinets with L-brackets. -Prepare a bag of emergency supplies that includes things like food and water (at least 1 liter per person per day), flashlights, spare batteries, lighter/matches, candles, first aid kit, emergency blankets, medicine, a whistle, cash, bank books, copies of important documents, portable radio, plastic bags, etc. -Be sure to check your supplies monthly to make sure they are in good condition. -Know where the nearest hospital or clinic is and how to get there. |
