| Useful Info: Emergency Information: What to do in an Earthquake |
| If you are Indoors |
| -Seek shelter beneath a sturdy desk or another safe location. -Turn off all gas appliances or any other appliance that may cause a fire. -Turn off the gas by closing the valve. -Extinguish any fires immediately. -Secure an escape route by opening a door or window. -Wait until the earthquake has subsided before going outside. -Stay together with family and neighbors, and find a safe place to wait for help. |
| If you are Outdoors |
| -Protect yourself from falling objects. Cover your head with your hands, briefcase, etc. -Avoid narrow streets, walls, tall buildings, vending machines, and fences. -Stay away from coastal areas to avoid the risk of tidal waves. |
| Once the Earthquake is Over |
| -Listen to radio and TV announcements for information. -Confirm the safety of family and neighbors, and help anyone in trouble. -Before evacuating the area, turn off all gas valves and circuit breakers. -Evacuate on foot to avoid hampering rescue crews. -Avoid using the telephone except in an emergency. |
