Site News: Development Going Less Than Smoothly

Things arn't so merry and dandy in the world of Interscape right now. Certain pressures are setting in and there has been some misfortune for that well promised WCS Social Party review. However, it's not so bad. I've downloaded heaps of java recently which should spice things up. One of the more major events includes prospected assimilation (I am the Borg), or 'merger' as they like to call it, with Mothman Industries and Cybersoft. I don't know where this will lead with the future of Interscape, but fingers crossed for a much, much, better website. Meanwhile the search for a perfect menu continues...

Normally before a site starts construction, all parameters, contracts and tools are laid out and set in the first instance. However, for us this is not so. Trying to work with no money at all to make a proffesional website, and only for non profit purposes is not just a mouthfull of words, but a huge task. One of the biggest problems is employment. Who want's to work on a website day and night for just the sheer 'pleasure' of it? The answer is: NOT MANY PEOPLE. So the agreements always chop and change too. Right now I have a few close friends lending stuff and helping out with the work, but mainly I have to do all the hard menial tasks of seting everything up and writing all the articles. Aside from this, basic issues such as layout, navigation, java and server problems are hitting hard. For example, lengly tests have to be carried out as to how big any one page should be (according to how fast other peoples computers are on average) and what browser plugins are most popular amongst the audience. Would you settle down for about 5 min for the flash players to download if you didn't already have them? Probably not, but if my site was all plain text would you ever come back to it? Well, sorry about rambling on about my design problems, but if you could e-mail us any suggestions at [email protected] it would be greatly appreciated.

A bit of a bummer here for the WCS junior social review: One of our contributers wasn't able to bring the digital camera, so there won't be any exclusive inside photos around here until something else cool happens. But if you have anything you want the world to see - fast - we'd like you to either scan and mail us them (jpg/gif formats preffered) or lend them to me so I can scan it, if you don't know how.

NZ News: Virus Alert: "MAGISTR" To Hit Our Shores Soon

"Great, yet another e-mail virus from hell" - Disgruntled IT proffesional

A cunning virus is set out to wreak havoc on computer systems. Right now it's making it's way across Europe and looks set on making it's way to NZ.

The major difference between this virus and previous efforts is that, it can extract addresses not only from outlook express, but from a number of other different places. On top of that, it's name is randomly generated so your ISP cannot block it. It also affects your whole network, if you have one, and does a lot of damage, including infecting almost all your files and flashing your BIOS.

You can take a number of measures against getting infected, but mainly not opening any *.exe / *.bat files will get you by. So beware of any attachments your recive, from anyone!

Every e-mail virus tries to out do the last, this is no exception

International News: American Sub Sinks Japanese Trawler

'America is repeatedly ridiculing us,' - says Japanese victim's father

An investigation is being carried out as to what caused a huge US battle sub to crash into a Japanese fishing trawler. The incident occured just South of Pearl Harbour during a practice dive, where the 110m 'Los Angeles' class sub surfaced underneath the Ehime Maru and destroyed it's hull. However, the Greenville suffered only scraches as the Ehime Maru was only 7% of it's weight. There were 9 casualties, four Japanese students, two teachers and three of the trawlers crewmen.

Both vessels were carrying civilians, and there were a few noticeable coincidences. For instance, WWII began for the US at that location, and the US had sunk another ship by the name of Ehime Maru in WWII.
