What does Reality Based Mean?

WHAT IS REALITY BASED? Simply put, Reality-Based Self Defense is a no nonsense approach that focuses on techniques, and tactics that actually work in the real world - without spending years to learn complicated forms or techniques that require a decade of training to be effective on the street.
How do we know it works? This training is used every day by people working in HIGH RISK jobs; from Military and Law Enforcement, to Protection Specialists and Security Personnel they trust it so you can too. You may not work in a high risk environment but you can still benefit a lot from this training - for self defense of your home and family, at work, on the streets for a walk or when traveling.

DO I HAVE TO FORGET MY REGULAR TRAINING? Not at all, in fact it may be very useful; Reality Based training bridges the gap between theoretical fighting arts, and actual street conflict through methods designed to force the trainee to respond instinctively and effectively. Skills that you already have, if theyre valid, will assist you greatly.
We arent re-inventing the wheel here and the standard is not perfection it just has to work. Ask yourself, does your current training get you barefoot on mats doing things you know you would or could never really do on the street? Does your traditional art teach the same devastating type of response to almost any situation without preparing you for the legal and moral consequences? If so, then you may want to come and see what modern self defense for todays world looks like at COREselfdefense.

WHAT KIND OF TECHNIQUES ARE INVOLVED? Gross-motor based striking, instinct based, simple takedowns & throws, ground survival techniques, escape & reversal techniques from common holds combined with modern street tactics, drills and, awareness training. Also, you will learn about the common characteristics, and dynamics of modern street attacks and, how to be as prepared as possible.

WHAT MAKES THIS DIFFERENT? "CORE Reality Based Self Defense" delivers a Total Program preparing trainees to have the right mindset to survive a violent encounter (Pre-Conflict). You will learn about appropriate response with the USE OF FORCE LADDER created by Jim Wagner for civilians -- helping ensure your response to attack is appropriate and defensible (Pre-Conflict). You will learn effective core skills required to defend against an attacker using striking, grappling or ground fighting against you, including a realistic knife survival course (Conflict Training).
Unlike sport systems or other courses offered in traditional based schools, we believe in follow through you need to know things like how to: assess immediate injuries, how to be a good witness, how to call Police authorities (always acting within the law), as well as the importance of consulting legal counsel to protect your rights (Post Conflict), and how to be an effective court witness.. even, how to recognize symptoms of post traumatic stress.
