This website will show you our diversity and commitment to personal safety and self protection training.
ISC Portugal (Integrated Street Combat) is a leading Cascais based trainer in practical self-defence, personal safety awareness and street combat courses for men, women and children.
Most young men, women and children in our society have heard: Don't fight back as you will make him or her angry. Yet statistics show that 4 out 5 women who fight back do get out of a situation! Remember, You can fight back, you just don't know how to yet!
Doing one of our personal self-defence course will provide you with a choice of self-protection skills that may prevent a rape, sexual assault or even save your life.
You do not need to have any martial arts experience to learn our self-defence skills.
The courses we offer are specifically designed for the everyday man, women or student and cover a variety of
important topics such as: personal safety talk and verbal de-escalation, safety in your daily life; assertiveness;
victim mentality; understanding the violent mind; how to handle aggression; identification of risk situations & their
avoidance; drug rape awareness; as well as a range of easy to remember and highly effective physical self-defence
techniques..
ISC offers courses not only to the general public but also to schools, universities and colleges as well as corporate clients
To date, men, women, children, businesses and schools, have taken our programs.
We stay current with our information and we pass this information directly onto you.
When you take one of our programs, you know that you are getting the most up to date and 'reality based' training available. We will come to you to provide the training, or you can come to one of our training venues, and soon you will be able to come to our fully equipped training centre (opening early 2007)
We can design programs to meet your training needs.

About Paul Joseph the owner of ISC
I have trained with The Self-Defence Federation (U.K.) and have been involved in the Martial arts and self-defence for over 20 years. I am also a 1st Dan Aikido and I have also studied Wing chun and Shantung Black Tiger Kung Fu styles, Muay Thai kick Boxing and various other styles of Martial Arts.
I have been involved in both the martial arts and weight lifting/training for the past 25 years.
I began my Martial studies with Judo and fencing at school and some Karate then at the age of 18 i started my Martial arts proper with wing chun kung fu which i studied for 3 years, I then studied a mixture of wing chun and shantung black tiger, which i continued for a further 2 years.
During this time i also tried a few other martial arts small circle ju jutsu and northern praying mantis and some Kali.
It wasnt until about 10 years after that when i began my studies in Aikido (Ki and yoshinkan also jodo). This i have continued to study.
There was a stage in my aikido studies when i decided to pressure test it, with some short comings, after which i decided to include some Muay Thai and western boxing.
I currently teach aikido and reality based self defence here in portugal and have just begun studying "jogo de pau" which is a portuguese form of stick fighting
I also have a keen interest in the RBSD techniques from pre and post war.
My weight training started out around the same time as my martial arts.....probably to get bigger and stronger for my fighting.
I was lucky enough to meet the great arnold Schwarzenegger when i was 16, this also inspired me to train.
I have continued to lift weight for various sports and in 1999 qualified as a personal trainer and sports therapist. I am extremely interested in the old style lifting routines, methods and techniques.
I currently train various clients here in Portugal
