Concept and need of reliability: Different types and modes of failures, causes of failure in electronic components.

Reliability Theory: Hazard rate, failure density function, availability, maintainability, mean time to failure and repair system: series, parallel, K-type. Reliability evaluation, optional reliability and redundancy allocation. The trade off between reliability and cost, system diagonisation, Fault tree analysis.

Quality Control: Basic sources of quality problems and their solution. Statistical tolerance, variational distribution, control charts. Acceptance sampling, correlation and regression. Quality rating and improvement, reliability and quality control test plans. VLSI technology.
