Nicky was exuberant, and gave Nily what she wanted. Sex. She knew all too
well that his high wouldn't last long, he'd be craving more, and he'd just
have to wait. She called the shots. Nicky knew that was the case, from the
first time he became hooked on cocaine, if he demanded more drugs, she'd just
take away his release. It had happened once before, and he barely lasted two
days. He couldn't handle cold turkey, he wasn't ready to quit, but he also
didn't want to leave the limelight, that was almost as much of a high. Almost.
He sank back on the bed, feeling the boundless energy escaping from his now
weary bones. His limbs felt as though they were filled with lead, his head
pounded, his mouth dry, he needed more. He groaned and slowly turned over,
facing Nily.
"More!" He pleaded with her. She blew cigarette smoke in his
face, he
coughed and hated the throbbing sensation he felt deep in his throat. He felt
and most probably looked like crap
She just smiled at him, he was screaming inside. One hit was never enough for
him, he was out, he relied on her to keep him stocked up.
"Not tonight sweetie" She said dismissively
He couldn't believe her, he needed the intensity that he just experienced,
and she just brushed him away, sitting up, he furiously pulled his trousers
on.
"And where do you think you're going?" She asked
"I'm leaving" He stood up unsteadily, the room spun, he still
had alcohol
racing through his body, he had no clue how he was going to return to the
hotel, he couldn't stand up straight
"Don't be such a baby Nicky. You can't have another hit, accept that
fact!"
"I'll just find someone else then, you're not the only one who can supply
me
with what I need"
A sharp blow knocked him off his feet, his hand flew up to his cheek where
she struck him. He looked up at her with fearful eyes, in the six months he'd
been with her, she'd been arrogant, but never once had she raised her hand to
him. He loved her. She gave him a new lease of life, he hated her at first,
but had grown to love her
She looked down at him, smiled meekly, and dropped to the floor, taking him
in her arms, stroking his tousled hair. He leaned in to her touch, ignoring
the fact that she hit him, that was the least of his worries.
The hotel loomed into view, as the taxi pulled up outside, Mark paid the
driver, while I collected my bags.
"Are you sure it's okay me been here?" I asked Mark as we walked
into the
lobby
"I told you it was fine, now stop worrying" He smiled
I went up to Mark's room, taking in the single bed and felt slightly uneasy.
"Err....Mark?"
"Yes" He looked up, I took my bags from him and walked to the
door "I can't
stay here" I said quietly
"Why?" He followed my gaze, and it rested on the bed. A blush
filled his
cheeks "It's okay, I'll just sleep on the sofa"
"No Mark, I'll stay with Nicky, we have things to discuss anyway"
"Oh okay" There was a hint of disappointment in his voice. I
smiled and left
his room.
Upon entering Nicky's room, I tiptoed in, not wanting to disturb him. Not
wanting to give him another reason to kick off at me.
I turned the light on, and couldn't believe it. The room was in disarray,
clothes strewn everywhere, so unlike him. Not only that, his bed was empty.
The clock flashed 4:21 am. Where is he? I paced the carpet anxiously, fear
raced through me, remembering the cold way he spoke to me, and the strange
phone call from his bit on the side, it choked me everytime I recalled her
voice, I could feel her laughing at me, for trusting him.
Nicky drove back to the hotel, weaving in and out of dangerous obstacles, he
didn't get anything else from her. He was too afraid to anger her. It scared
him that she had a hold over him, right now though, he needed a hit. His body
was aching through it, he could feel his shirt soaked to his skin with sweat.
If I can just make it to my bed, I'll be fine. He thought. He stepped out of
his car and his legs buckled from underneath him, he pulled himself up, he
had never been as scared as he was right now. He couldn't walk, he could
barely talk, he found it a struggle to even breathe.
He cried out, and all that came out was a strangled sob, he leaned against
the side of the hotel and took deep long breaths "Get a grip
Nicky" He
chastised himself for been so weak, he knew he could make it into the hotel.
Holding onto the railings, he staggered step by step into the lobby, he sank
onto his knees, getting his breath back.
The lobby was deserted. Not a soul in sight. No one to see the state he was
in, he was thankful for that. No one to help, no one who knew what he was
going through. He was lusted after by thousands and thousands of girls, yet
he'd never felt more alone than he did right now.
Sitting up, he cast his gaze over towards the lift, knowing he'd never make
it up the stairs. He took an instant dislike as he stepped into it. He tried
to calm down as he pressed floor number 7 into the panel.
His chest tightened, he sank to the floor, gasping for breath, regretting
stepping foot in the lift. Thanking god as the lift reached his floor. He
crawled out into the spacious corridor, swearing as he recomposed himself.
Tears streamed down his face as he crawled the short distance to his room,
throwing his weight against it.
The door burst open and he fell into his room, I looked at him in shock. He
looked drunk, but something was different about him, I knelt beside him and
made him look into my eyes, the look I was confronted with made me shiver, he
didn't even recognise me
"Nicky, it's me. Caz"
He mumbled something that I had trouble hearing, suddenly he smiled and fell
into my arms, his body shook violently. I held him, not knowing what to do.
Shane flew out of his room, hearing a crash. He found nothing, except Nicky's
door wide open. Curiosity got the better of him and he went to investigate.
What he found threw him, he couldn't take it in
"Caz. What's happened? How did you get here? Where's Mark!"
He fired questions at me "It's Nicky, he won't stop shaking Shane.
Something's wrong. Really wrong!"
Shane crouched down and lifted Nicky's chin, seeing pasty skin, sweat soaked
clothes, he felt his forehead. "God, he's burning up!"
Shane picked him up and took him into the bathroom, placing him in the
shower, turning the cold water on, trying to sober him up, cool him down.
I looked on in fear. I saw the way Shane panicked, usually calm, strong. He
was scared, Nicky wasn't just drunk, it was more than that
Nicky woke up as ice cold water alerted his senses, he started mumbling, then
his mumbles turned into screams.
Bryan, Kian and Mark rushed out, they took in the awful scene that had played
out.
"What happened!" Kian demanded to know
"I don't know, he's taken something Ki. What? I don't know"
Mark stared at Nicky, as he thrashed about, Shane tried to hold him down.
Bryan ran in to help.
"Will he be okay?" I asked
"I don't know!" Shane snapped
I had to leave, I couldn't stay there another second.
"Hey, wait up" I stopped to find Mark behind me. Tears streamed
down my
face, I was powerless to the emotions. Mark said nothing, he just held me
"Kian, get here!" Shane hollered. Kian was there in an instant.
Nicky was
calmer, he'd been sick, and he fell into a deep sleep. "Keep an eye
on him,
I need to call Tonya"
"Sure" Kian sank down beside Bryan. The shower had been turned
off, and
Bryan decided to dry Nicky and put him to bed. Kian aided him
Shane sighed as he waited for Tonya to pick up
"Hello" An American voice greeted him
"Honey, it's me"
"Shane? What's wrong?"
"What makes you think anything's wrong?" He asked nervously. The
last thing
he wanted was for her to worry
"Well, it must be what? 4? 5 in the morning. Not even you would be awake
this
early without a good reason"
"Can you come over Tonya? I really need you here"
"When?" She asked
"Now, can you get the next flight out please?"
"Not until you tell me what the urgency is in aid of?"
"I...I just miss you baby" He said softly
"I miss you too Shane, but something's not adding up here. What's
happened!"
He sighed, knowing it was pointless keeping anything from her "Okay,
I'll
tell you, It's Nicky. He's ill. I want you to be here for Caz, she's beside
herself with worry"
"I'll be out there as soon as I can" She had plans, but she cast
them aside,
she could sense that Shane needed her. She had to be with him, her studies
could wait.
