This next chapter is going to require some rudimentary knowledge of 19th century British literature, so I’m going to fill you in on it now. If you’ve never read Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen or never seen the movie, I’m about to ruin it for you in this explanation and in this chapter so be warned. Sense and Sensibilty centered around two sisters, Elinor and Marianne Dashwood. Marianne was the younger sister whose personality was characterized by being romantic but imprudent, and she fell in love with this selfish ASSHOLE named Willoughby. They fell in love with each other, actually. People, namely Elinor, disapproved of Marianne’s behavior concerning Willoughby, because she never had any inhibitions about showing her love for him. Everything was just always out in the open for Marianne. Elinor, however, was a different story. She fell in love with this guy named Edward, but she was the exact opposite of Marianne and never bothered to tell Edward her feelings, keeping it all inside (which Marianne highly disapproved of). When Elinor found out that Edward was secretly engaged to a girl named Lucy (whom Elinor was acquainted with, btw) and had been for several years, she just tried to forget about him. Marianne knew that Elinor was in love with Edward and tried to get her to say it but Elinor refused to admit that she had any feelings towards him. So all this time that she thought Edward wanted someone else, she was going through a lot of heartache herself and she had to keep it all inside because she refused to tell anyone or even admit to her own feelings. There’s more, a lot more to the story, but that’s all you’re going to need to know. It’s a great book, you should all read it. The movie is absolutely brilliant, also. I highly recommend both. Well anyways, click here to get to the chapter.
