The impact of good reading
Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a great Indian scholar and second President of India, read more than 10,000 books at an early age and wrote notes for all the books he read. Abraham Lincoln, who rose to be the 16th President of the United States, worked as a carpenter during daytime. He read extensively during the night and eventually became the President of America.
Isaac Newton, British physicist and mathematician, was a very eager reader of books. He used to weep when he could not get a good book in the market. Robert Louis Stevenson, famous English writer, used to take two books wherever he went, one to read, another one to note down the points.
Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, was an avid reader of books. With his knowledge he became a person with an all-round development in world history. He was also a great writer among intellectuals and philosophers. Vladimir Lenin, leader of the Russian revolution of October 1917 and founder of the modern communist state, sat for 14 years in a library and became a world hero.
Dr B.R. Ambedkar, Indian jurist, social reformer and Chairman of Indian Constitution drafting body developed his mental powers and personality by reading a wide range of subjects. Adolf Hitler, the German dictator who led the Nazis and authored �Mein Kamph� used to paint buildings during the day. At night, he read over 20,000 books which contributed to his physical and mental development.
