INSPIRING ANECDOTES
A gift from the company
Once Mother Teresa went to a big medical shop with a list of medicines she required. The manager was very busy. Mother showed him the written list of medicines and asked for them all free.
"You’ve come to the wrong place lady!" answered the manager. "Let me finish my work in peace."
Mother would not give up. She sat down and said her prayer (rosary). When she had finished, the manager said, "All right, here are three parcels with the medicines you need. You may have them as a gift from the company".
Witnessing by living
During the American Civil War, President Lincoln had a strapping athletic young man as his secretary.
In those days before automated office machinery, such a man would literally be pushing a pen or pencil.
This particular man was not happy about it. He wanted to get out where the action was—on the battlefield. He wanted to go and do great things for his country. He was quite willing to die, if necessary.
So he kept on complaining to Lincoln about the feminine kind of work he was doing, when he could be in uniform confronting the enemy.
After hearing this usual complaint one day, Lincoln looked at him, caressed his beard and said in his philosophical way, "young man, as I see it, you are quite willing to die for your country, but you are not willing to live for it."
Martyrs give their lives by dying or by living.
