All are Gods children
Abraham Lincoln once went for a stroll with one of
his friends. An old Negro was coming towards them. Greeting him amiably,
Lincoln chatted with him for a while. His friend was not amused and
said: "As the President of the USA, you should have been more conscious
of your status. The President need not show this much concern towards a
Negro."
To this Lincoln replied: "All are Gods children. God
loves us all. We should not exclude any one from our love. As I love you
I love this poor, old Negro too!"
Criticism
During the Civil war, one day, Jefferson David needed
a reliable officer for an important assignment. He asked General Lee
what he thought of a certain man named Whiting for the post. Lee
commended him highly.
One of the latters officers was much surprised at
General Lees recommendation. Calling General Lee aside, he asked him if
he knew what derogatory things Whiting had been saying about him. Lee
answered, "I understand that the President wanted to know my opinion of
Whiting, not Whitings opinion of me."
Big men are too magnanimous to take note of criticism
or slights. It is the small person, the person who is egoistic who
cannot overlook personal attacks.
