"The spirit of the age is in favour of equality, though practice denies it almost everywhere.... Yet, the spirit of the age will triumph" Although total equality of condition or result is neither attainable nor desirable, we must to our very best considerably reduce inequalities and build a much more egalitarian society. In fact, there are many practical and effective ways of promoting equality. In the past, the ideology of equality has significantly bettered the conditions, and diminished the oppression of women and diverse disadvantaged nations, races, classes, castes, minorities and other ethnic/religious, cultural groups. In the future, the struggle for equality can and must continue to improve the lives of many oppressed groups and numberless individuals. A few guidelines for the effect of equality: * One must always keep in mind and live the deepest and most basic concept of equality the equality of all as human beings. * One must fully endorse and foster legal equality. * One must also promote equality of opportunity and even transform it, as far as possible, into fair equality of opportunity. John Desrochers
