Ozone Hole Shrinking

A United Nations report, the latest in a series of four-yearly reports reviewing the ozone layer since the Montreal Protocol has come up with a welcome revelation that the ozone layer over Antarctica may close within 50 years. This has been achieved due to the decline in the level of ozone depleting Chloro-Flurocarbons (CFCs) in the atmosphere since 2000.

The ozone layer is essential for life on earth as it shields the earth from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet B radiation and completely screens out lethal UV-C radiation. Chlorine from Chloflurocarbons used in air-conditions and refrigerators since 1930 caused a hole in the ozone layer.

Pre-historical Venice

Archaeologists have uncovered a "Pre-historic Venice" in Southern Italy, completely with houses built on islands and a network of canals and bridges. The settlement known as Poggiomarimo is thought to have begun as early as the middle Bronze Age, 1500 BC. meaning that it would have predated Venice by 2000 years.
