Practice makes perfect

After a particularly brilliant concert, Beethoven was surrounded by friends and admirers who were full of praise for him. One unusually enthusiastic woman exclaimed: "Oh Sir, if God had only given me that gift of genius!"

"It is not genius, madam," replied Beethoven, "nor magic. All you have to do is to practice on your piano eight hours a day for forty years and you’ll be as good as I am."

Face the Reality

When young, Swami Vivekananda was known as Narendran. One day Narendran was going to the Durga temple in Kashmir. A troop of monkeys followed him. Narendran was sacred not knowing what to do. He decided to run and escape. With all his might he began to run. But the monkeys were faster.

A Sannyasi was watching the scene. He cried out: "Instead of running, face them."

Narendran did as he was told. He stopped running. The monkeys also stopped and, after a while, disappeared.
