Joy is beyond happiness. The
former is the fruition and complement of the latter.
Real joy comes from the
fulfilment of our desires in accordance with our general good. Therefore,
self-discipline and governing oneself and ones actions according to good
reason and judgement is the very key to internal joy.
"The Joyfulness of man prolongeth
his days," says the book of Ecclesiasticus.
There is a strong temptation to
dwell upon our misfortunes
our lacks
our limitations
our defects
our failures.
Never yield to this temptation.
Think of health, not disease;
Of strength, not weakness;
Of perfection, not imperfection.
