The Fifth Clue is Construction
Sew the tree block to the left hand of the birdhouse block. 
Now you have your center done.  Cut out two 2 1/2" strips of fabric 8 the width of the fabric.  From these cut four 2 1/2" x 16 1/2" strips.  Sew a strip to the top and bottom of the birdhouse/tree block.  Press. 
Get out the four 2 1/2" squares of fabric 4 that you cut in Clue 3.  Sew one to each end of the two remaining strips of fabric 8.  Press.  Sew these strips to the sides of the unit, matching corners.  Press.  It should now measure 20 1/2" square
Cutting Instructions:

Fabric 2 - Cut three 1 1/2" strips width of fabric for the second inner border.  Cut 5 more 1 1/2" strips width of fabric for border strips.  Then cut out six 2 1/2" strips for the border.

Fabric 3 - Cut four 2 1/2" strips width of fabric for middle border strips.  Cut three 1 1/2" strips the width of fabric for the first inner border strip.

Fabric 4 - Cut one 4 1/2" strip.  From this strip cut four 4 1/2" corner squares.

Fabric 6 - Cut two 2 1/2" strips.

Fabric 7 - Cut two 2 1/2" strips.

Fabric 9 - Cut six 5 1/2" strips

Fabric 10 - Cut seven  6 1/2" strips for outer border (may need 1 more strip)
The first inner border is made with fabric 3.  Sew the 1 1/2" strip to the top and bottom.  Press.  Then sew a strip to each side.
The second inner border is in fabric 2.  Sew the 1 1/2" strip to the top and bottom.  Press.  Then sew a strip to each side.
