VECTOR GRAPHICS

History of Vector Graphics

The history of the vector graphic is well known. Vectors come from your geometry class. The mathematical equation plotted on an x,y coordinate map. These plot points would then be connected together to make a shape. Old style vector formats on the computer were made from Auto-Cad programs. Eventually companies like Adobe and Corel saw the capabilities of a vector graphic. By plotting out the line in a mathematical equation this vector graphic could be resized to fit any medium. Vector makes the smallest file size and is flawless when it comes to quality. This gives vector graphics a serious advantage over the bitmap image. The raster has always reigned supreme over it's vector brethren. By using the pixel as a representation of the painted surface making for a process similar to drawing. Vector is a shape by shape basis and the shapes can be altered at any time as seperate entities. Kind of like using cut out paper dolls and shifting them on the pages.
