I was searching for a man named Brick. From the stories I heard, he was an overgrown half wit. I didn't know what to expect. I can't imagine a large man being so easily booted from a bar or even being stealthy enough to rob a bar. I guess he had friends. The overgrown beast of a man is of little concern to me, they seldom are quick enough to counter a smaller target. Those theif types tend to Jump out of no where and attack when your least prepared. There is always a solution to every problem, I'll Just have to find it. I went searching for answer on the outside of the wall. All of my clues suggested that Brick was outside in hiding. I was greeted as an outsider. I didn't even know why. I didn't think I looked much different. The only information I was able to learn was about the places around. I figured instead of scouring the entire place, I would find one section where people seemed the nicest and build a friendly relationship with the community. I listened to many tales they had and I learned alot about the place I was living. They talked mostly of old wars and the good old days as people often do. The things that caught my interest was information abou the city. From all of the stories I have learned, I have a good discribtion of the city. Outside of the city of Draun is separated a large wall. Its a fortifacation against invasion. It was a simple protection. They were logs driven into the ground with the tops carved to a point. It was a fair sized city, so the wall was long. It stretched along the outside with four towers at the corners. When the city reached the confines of the border they rebuilt the homes. They centralized the market into the center of town. The streets were larger and it was along trade routes. The slums were once the resident district, but fell into hardship later on. They build and rebuilt in the spaces that a building would fit. It got so crowded and developed so many problems the rich moved out and the gangs moved in. The surrounding farms started being taken over by large plantation owners and small time farmers had to move to the city. The farmers always helped each others before, and now that they were struggling outside of a crowded city. They built a community with hardened mud blocks and straw roofs. They could not get by without eachothers help. The called the place the village and there was a side on the west and the east. They have money for trade inside the city, but they are relatively poor. You wouldn't know it by looking at them. They make and trade and borrow amongst themselves. I think if the city disappeared they would barely notice. I spent most of the day there and I found out nothing. I did however get a crash course in spinning thread. The good news is that I didn't break anything, but I did get laughed at. I know I won't be doing that in the future. I returned back to the Midnight Moon defeated. I protected the brothel most nights unless I was on business dealing with the Dragon Foot Clan. They get by most nights Just fine without me since all the real trouble makers know they aren't welcome. I sometimes feel like I'm not being useful. I made a deal and I need to survive. I have to be honest though, protecting and sleeping in a house with beautiful girls isn't worth complaining about. |
