The past few years, he and Mrs. Swaine made their homes with their children, first with their daughter Cora (Mrs. Charles Kavanaugh) and within the past year or so with their son Fred and Mrs. Swaine, who tenderly cared for him in his illness. The deceased leaves to mourn for him his widow; three sons, Walter and Fred, Fishery Officer, both at Canso, Clarence, Western Canada; two daughters, Cora (Mrs. Charles Kavanaugh), Montreal, and Annie Laurie, teacher at Vancouver. The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon conducted by Rev. W. H. Johnson at the residence of his son.

499.  "Halifax Herald," 30 Dec 1998, JOHNS, Carmen Blois - Windsor Elms, Windsor, died December 29, 1998, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Weymouth in 1900, he was the eldest son of the late Frederick and Frances Johns. He was a veteran of both the First and Second World wars. On November 9, 1998, he was honoured at the Pearson Peacekeeping Centre where he was presented with the John McCrae Medallion by the Canadian government and a Certificate of Gratitude from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth as a surviving member of the First World War. He joined the Canadian Expeditionary Force in February 1916 at age 15 when he enlisted in the 219th Battalion and later served with the 85th Overseas Battalion of the Nova Scotia Highland Regiment in the trenches at Passchendaele in Belgium. Throughout the Second World War, he served with the Canadian Army Service Corps in Canada from 1939 to 1945 when he retired as a staff sergeant. In his later years, he lived in Granville Ferry and was employed at CFB Cornwallis until his retirement in 1965. He was a lifetime member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 21, Annapolis Royal. He served as grand master and district chaplain of the Masonic Lodge as well as worthy patron of Annapolis Royal Branch of the Eastern Star. In addition, he was treasurer of Granville Ferry Baptist Church for many years. The Dunromin Campsite was his pride and joy. He and his son, Bill founded, developed and worked this very successful 85 acre site until they both retired from campsite life in 1983. Surviving are son, Frederick, Bridgetown; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Jessie Swaine; sisters, Myrtle Loring, Annie Sabean; brothers, William, Curtis, Purley; sons, Carl, Bill. Cremation has taken place. Visitiation 2-4 p.m. Thursday, legion service 4 p.m. Thursday, memorial service 2 p.m.  Friday, all in Robert L. Hall Funeral Home chapel, Annapolis Royal, Rev. Mark Shaw officiating. Burial in Stony Beach Cemetery, Granville Beach. Donations to any charity.
