When these figures are broken down by marital status (see Table 20) it is evident that married women are relatively better off in deprivation terms than any other group of women in Inishowen, while those who are divorced fare the worst.  Nevertheless, these findings are in no way satisfactory - it is bad enough to have to do without a holiday, or to miss going out occasionally, but for any woman to be obliged to do without clothes or shoes is far from acceptable.  These findings support the hidden and invisible poverty of women referred to by the NWCI, an adequate awareness of which is crucial to its elimination (National Women's Council of Ireland, 2000b).
