The most common occupation of the women in this survey was stated to be that of "Paid Carer", with almost 17% of those at work in this category.  Just over 12% of women in paid work are employed in "Catering/Hospitality", with almost 11% more working in the "IT/Computers" field.  A breakdown of the other types of employment recorded and the age groupings is provided in Table 14.

 

5.3 Barriers to Paid Work


Twenty four women chose not to provide ratings for the identified barriers to getting and keeping a paid job outlined in Question 21 - seven of these respondents were retired, two suffered from a permanent disability and fifteen preferred to be full-time parents and/or at home. 

As can be seen in Table 15, the top barrier for women in relation to getting and keeping a paid job is that of the "Availability of suitable jobs locally" - this was significantly higher than the next highest-rated barrier, that of "Losing the medical card".  Given the general lack of employment prospects in Inishowen as a whole, for both
