Based on the premise that a student who is scientifically research-oriented could develop his maximum potential if given the proper training, the Iloilo National High School launched the Scientific and Technological Talent Development Program for deserving students from Iloilo as well as the neighboring provinces of Region VI.

the first Special Science Class in Western Visayas launched in 1989 to meet the scientific and technological manpower need of the country. Its consistent excellent academic performance as the No. 1 Science and Technology School among the 110 Science and Technology Network Schools of the DOST-SEI Project in the country since 1994 to the present inspired the division to put up Special Science Classes in the top performing schools of the Province of Iloilo.
