In 1977, a very influential film was released. Star Wars. With it's succses came a wave of imitators. Some good, some bad. Among the good was Glen Larson's epic film/TV drama, Battlestar Galactica. Originaly intended as a set of TV movies, Galactica struck a cord with its audiences with fantastic big budget special effects, heavy drama and a touch of Larson style humor. But it's big budget and low ratings struck Battlestar Galactica down. It was canceled after one short season.
Not willing to let the show die in the reruns, Larson struggled to bring the show back to life. The NBC executives thought that the succses of Battlestar Galactica could be repeated, but they weren't willing to invest heavily in a sci fi show. So, they hurridly scooped together a budget, found a time slot that needed filling and turned to Larson. Unfortunately, the budget they found happened to be really low and the time slot was one aimed at small children. This meant that Larson had to take his characters on Earth instead of in space looking for Earth as it had been in the original. It also meant he was subject to the most evil people in the film making businuess, censors. Because of this, only two original cast members were willing to appear in the production.
Dispite the low budget, being hated by the crew and the censors, the result was a short, fun entertaining example of 80s pop culture. From the fantastic turbocycles to child prodigy Dr. Zee, this show has become a cult classic and a fantastic nostaliga trip for any number of fans. The show's name?
