Our first stop was at the Lee Mine, outside Death Valley. A maze of tunnels and underground chambers, the Lee Mine was a fascinating exploration. We fended off irritated bats and traversed pitch black tunnels. Above left: MK's trusty '86 Land Cruiser, a beast off road and unstoppable. Above right: MK and Dan prepare to enter Lee Mine, while in the background, Em' searches for interesting stones around Kevin's Pathfinder.
A glimpse of the vast desert lanscape from the passenger window of the Land Cruiser as it ascended a mountain trail.
A narrow trail along the edge of a cliff which the Land Cruiser handled with ease.
At our first campsite just outside Saline Valley, Dan stops to grab some scenery while MK takes a minute for the camera.
A huge hill of massive boulders rose up from where we camped. I set up my cot on one of these and enjoyed the pollutionless skies that night, treated to a beautiful starscape that is rarely seen in today's urban world.
The next morning, Dan and I climbed the massive hill to see if we could find a lost trail. We didn't see it, but from atop a peak boulder we saw the trail we came in on. Below: Another view from the summit.
