That afternoon, while exploring an uncharted path, our expedition happened upon an amazing view of Death Valley from an adjacent mountain peak.  Above: MK takes in the amazing view of the pure landscape below in the midst of the desert silence.
MK and I grab a photo together at the peak overlooking Death Valley far below.  Our expedition knew we had to get down into the valley somehow and we spent a good amount of time on the peak investigating the map for the best possible route.
A clear view of Death Valley from the mountain top.
Once in Death Valley, we found another uncharted trail and explored it into the hills over treacherous terrain.  When we broke through into an adjacent valley, we saw this abandoned mining camp below.  Our curiosity was peaked, as was our caution...
MK approaches the old shack carefully.  The silence of the desert lent an eerie feeling to the whole excursion.  Below left: MK reads some markings on the wall of the abandoned shack next to an old stove.  Below right: A shelf is home to an abandoned bottle of Black Velvet Whiskey.
