This is a chronicle of my quest for Indiana Jones gear. It lists everything I have ever used or substituted for the real thing and the approximate year it was acquired. Many of the earlier items were acquired in childhood and used in kind.  The pictures below, unless noted otherwise, are photos of the most recent gear item in that particular subsection. The information on the fedora has its own page. The older gear pieces are pictures on my "Gear Throughout the Years" page.  Click here to see my "Adventure Gear Throughout the Years" pictures and descriptions.

THE JACKET
Every adventurer requires some protection from the elements, gravity, and the inevitable angry native or assassin, and the leather jacket is a good way to go.
WESTED JACKET, RAIDERS VERSION, NEW FINISH: 2000
This is my custom made Wested jacket, a new finish Raiders version.  This is a "pre-modifications" jacket with straps that are too low.  I have since had these straps altered to the proper height.  I plan to own a Flightsuits jacket after December and wear this one "only on special occasions."
THE BULLWHIP
Indiana Jones' unique weapon of choice, the bullwhip. Deadly and painful in the hands of an experienced user, but in all honesty, do not try swinging on it.  Use a rope.

On the left, a very recent photo (courtesy of Jonesy) of myself and my 10 foot David Morgan.  David Morgan, master whipmaker, made the whips used by stunt coordinator Glenn Randall and Harrison Ford in Raiders of the Lost Ark and the sequels.  Given to me by my grandfather at great expense, this whip is a cherished item in my collection of adventure gear.

THE HANDGUN
A more common and more effective means of defense during the days of high adventure, though in today's world they are severly restricted.  Back in the early twentieth century however, tourists and adventurers packed heat in far away lands!
COLT NEW SERVICE M1917 (?) REVOLVER, .38 CALIBER 6" BARREL: 2000
This revolver has an interesting history. It was issued to my great-grandfather in World War I.  He served as a biplane pilot in the war and loved his sidearm so much, that he never bothered to return it after the war.  It has been passed down since then and is a wonderful heirloom from an almost mythical period in history.
Obviously, this is not the Colt M1917.  This is my modified American West cap gun. It breaks like a Webley MKVI and resembles the Smith & Wesson HE2 when properly cut down and painted.  It's a great substitute for the real thing as a "holster filler" during Halloween.

AMERICAN WEST CAPGUN, MARSHAL VERSION: 2000
SMITH & WESSON MODEL 10, .38 SPECIAL: 2000
THE SHOULDER BAG
Whether to carry the lost Sankara Stones, a spare pistol, or simply a deck of cards for the long flight to Venice, the shoulder bag is a great way to keep the carry-on as small as possible and easier to get at than a backpack.
BRITISH MARK VII GAS MASK BAG: 1999
My MKVII gas mask bag, purchased from Noel Howard in 1999.  I recently acquired a new strap from Lee Keppler with a narrow slide.  Pictures coming soon!.
OTHER BAGS

BROWN BINOCULARS CASE: 1987
GREEN U.S. ARMY SATCHEL, SURPLUS: 1993
NATURE COMPANY SHOULDER BAG: 1996

ELLINGTON RUCKSACK CO. LEATHER SHOULDER BAG: 1997
GUNBELTS BELTS
For all those weapons and other accessories. For keeping your pants up.
The Noel Howard Raiders gunbelt, with whip holder permanently attached.  I have since had the whip keeper modified and shortened with a stronger snap to better secure the whip.  Pictures to come soon.
Here is the "pants belt".  This was purchased from Noel Howard.
SHIRTS AND SHOES
Adventurers need rugged shirts and tough shoes.  Besides, most establishments require them for entry.
The L.L. Bean field shirt (far left) is the most accurate as far as features go.  Epaulets with pleated, button flap pockets are present.  The color in my opinion (tan) is way too dark though.  I call this shirt my "Steve Irwin Special".  In the middle is the Eddie Bauer Classics shirt.  Now a discontinued style, this shirt is easily my favorite as far as color and feel.  The photo does not accurately reflect its color, but trust me, this is a great Indy shirt.  Sure there are no epaulets and the fabric is a hair too heavy, but this is a wonderful shirt of high quality and in a classic adventure style.  On the far right, the R.E.I. Outdoorsman shirt.  The least accurate of the three in terms of styling, but a very close color and a wonderful light weight.  All of these shirts travel with me during every trip.
OTHER SHIRTS

EDDIE BAUER RAW SATIN SAFARI SHIRT: 1994
EDDIE BAUER RUFTON TWILL SHIRT: 1995
EDDIE BAUER RUFTON TWILL: 1996
CABELAS SAFARI SHIRT: 2002
The Alden Boots, Indiana Jones' preferred footwear.  These were purchased quite recently (2002) from Frederick's Shoes in Sherman Oaks, California from Fritz himself, the same man who fitted Harrison Ford for Raiders of the Lost Ark.

These boots are of the highest craftsmanship and quality, of a calibre rarely found in the large mess of today's post-modern consumerism.
I recently dyed them brown with Angelus shoe dye.  The resulting color is much more accurate.  New photos soon!
