Aftermarket Systems:

There are many systems to replace the stock Chrysler ECU. Each are designed to perform under specific situations.

Some examples found in the aftermarket are under the following brands:

• MSD Ignitions

• Crane

• Jacobs

• Mallory

I will deal with the common MSD systems in this article.

The MSD (Multiple Spark Discharge) control units are very simple to install systems. What they mean by multiple spark is that below 3000rpm the unit will cause the spark plug to fire 3 times during every combustion cycle. This ensures complete firing of the mixture and promote easy start up. Also creates a hotter spark for better combustion.

MSD 6A:

This system is the perfect replacement for the stock ECU. It will work with the stock igniton system. This is the unit I run.

MSD 6AL:

This is the same unit as the 6A but has a built in rev limiter set with plug in modules. Also the port used for the rev-limiter module can have a 2 or 3 step Module plugged into it. Also the unit is compatible with other MSD units.

The rev-limiter is excellent protection in case of driveline failure.

These units come with full installation instructions and are instantly worth at least 10 horsepower and improved fuel economy.
