From horse and buggy to the Space Age, Shellie Johnson remembers changes well.
"I have seen a lot of changes in my time.  When I was a little fellow, there were mules and horses, and people rode them, rode in buggies or walked wherever they wanted to go.
"And then they came out with cars.  It was like a miralce tous...seeing something travel down the road without any animals hitched to it.  Everybody just couldn't believer it.  And I remember way back then when old man Dwight Weathers told me that he knew he wouldn't live long enough to see it, but he bet that one day people would be traveling in the air.
"I looked at the automobiles traveling around on the dirt roads and tried to imagine how in the world someone would get those cars to travel in the air.  I told the old man he must be kidding.  But, sure enough, it happened.  We were all really amazed the first time we saw a plane flying high in the sky.
"And, for the first good many years of my life, we used slinters of wood to light our house, then we made torches, then used lantersn and eventually got electricity.  Back then, it seemed like magic."

Shellie Johnson has celebrated his "100th Birthday" this past 2003 summer.
