NADAC
The Adventures of the Real Team Bean
Ok everyone, here it is..in
the shortest version you will EVER get.
Thank the headache I have.
NADAC
My second favorite venue of agility.
Courses offered:
Standard (all of the equipment minus the Table)
Gamblers (all of the equipment with that handler distance thing.)
Jumpers (jumps and tunnels)
Levels:
Novice (A&B), Open, Elite
You need 30 points for a title. They offer 10 and 5 point Qs. (1 knocked bar OR 1 pop out on the
Weave Poles.)
The games classes HAVE to be clean.
NQ=2 knocked bars, jumped contacts.
Ribbons are given to the NQers as NADAC likes losers too.
Ready??????"
In the order that I ran them:
Crumpet
Open Standard round 1 - 4th place NQ
Open St. Round 2 - 4th place NQ
Open Gamblers - 1st place Q for our first leg out of 2.
Open Jumpers, 2nd place
Q for the first leg of 2. : ) Smokin' run too.
( I wish I could see straight and could type about this one, as this one run was a screamer. We amassed 41 points in
the opening and gained the next 20 points in the Gamble for a total of 61 points.)
Harry
Novice Standard round 1 - NQ
Novice Standard Round 2 - 3rd place NQ
Novice Jumpers, 4th NQ
Wow wee, two Qs in one daywith the same dog. Yes, Cory, it does happen.
For those who know and care (I am only going to report the Qs):
Elaine and Nan - Qed in Open Gamblers for 2nd place.
Sally and Bear - 5pt 4th place Qed in one of their Novice St. runs.
Sally and Molly - Qed in Novice Gamblers
Not Qing, but worthy of a mention in the Team Bean email..
Deb and Bianca did a great job in both St and one Jumpers run, but these three runs resulted in no Qs.
Deb did a great job with Bianca!!!!!!!!!
There you guys go..the
shortest Team Bean Email you will ever get. Please forgive me as I am back
logged on email BIG TIME. I am trying to get to all of you that have sent
emailies.
Heading off to relax and try to get rid of this 30 hour old headache.
Joyce, the Captain of the Qing Team Bean
Back to the long Version of Team Bean
Howdy Ho Everyone,
As promised, there are no more
short versions of the Team Bean emails. We had a fantastic weekend and you guys
are going to hear about today's runs.
NADAC
Same rules apply as yesterday's explanation.
We decided to pull Fred from
competition as this would have been the last trial of the year for him.
Instead, he got to hang out in Susie's van and enjoyed having the weekend off.
Smart dog. Dumb humans.
In the order that I ran
them.
Novice Standard Round 1 Harry
The Novice courses were
really nice and flowing and to be honest, I had a blast showing Harry. He was
his normal fast self, leaving my slow Human butt in the dust, but he ran in
control, avoiding a tunnel trap under the Frame like he was a pro at this whole
thing. I was really proud of his "rights and lefts" but we did have to jump off
the Tip and FLY off the DogWalk.
I will say that there were
parts of the course that I have never seen and it was not only a challenge to
face them for the first time, but to do so with Harry. He made me look like I
actually know how to "panic handle" like a professional. : )
Believe it or not, not one 12" doggie Qed, leaving us with..
NQ, 1ST place
Hooray for Harry.
Open Gambles Crumpie
Okie Fadokie. The opening I
chose to do had a million and one tunnels, plus a Frame or 2 thrown in. I
figured that I would make it around to the Tip/Tunnel area and then hang out
until the whistle.
That was the plan.
During the Judge's briefing,
the judge was asked what happens when a dog does all the obstacles twice and
still has time. His response was that it was impossible. I laughed.
Our turn at the course and we were off and hauling. (Notice the word choice here) I mean HAULING.
Dum dee dum dee dummmmmmmm.
We get the "tunnel/frame" part done and head over to the next part I have
planned. We do that. No whistle yet. Okie Fadokie, throw in 2 weaves, no
whistle. I sigh. Time to head off to do 2 more jumps and then to start redoing
stuff for a third time.
As Crumpie is going over the second jump, the whistle blows and we are right in front of the first Gamble
obstacle.the tunnel.
I put him in and for the life
of me, I cannot get him out to the next jump/weaves/jump, jump part. The
whistle blows and we haul butt to the finish line to stop time.
Crumpie amassed 50 points for the opening, 2 points for the tunnel in the Gamble. The only thing we did
not do was the DW twice.but I will get back to this in a few paragraphs.
NQ, 2nd place.
Novice Standard Round 2 Harry
Oh my goodness, did we have a
conversation at the weaves, which NQed us right there. The rest of the course
was done REALLY nicely and in control, but Harry ballistic. He did have to go
and jumped off the Tip, yet again.and almost made the DW contact. I hauled my
butt to the end and got there before he didyes that is rightI got somewhere
BEFORE Harry. : )
NQ, 3rd place
Open Standard Round 1 Crumpie
I am walking my course and the
Gambles Judge comes into the ring to talk to the other judge. I stopped him and
told him about how I laughed about no dog being able to do all of the
obstacles. His response???? You missed doing the DW twice and one tunnel. He
went on to say that the total number of points was 63 and well, we had 50 of
themCongrats on almost proving him wrong.
The guy REMEMBERED my run. Wow wee. That was truly an honor.
On with the run. Well, not really, I am going to paraphrase this one. We hauled in control, Crumpie
avoided the yummy tunnel trap under the Frame, kept the bars up, AND got the DW
contact. The only thing wrong? He missed the Weave Pole entry.
Q, 1st place for our next 10 points of 30.
Ha haaaaaaaaaaa.
Open Standard Round 2 Crumpie
Want heartbreak?
Na, why ruin it now. I can do that at the end of this paragraph.
We haul around, in control once again, he nails the pole entry, avoids more tunnels, keeps the bars up and
GETS the DW contact. What is the heartbreak? Since the ramp coming down the DW was wobbly, the dogs were rocking back, making it
appear that they were jumping. Four people said they saw Crumpie IN the yellow area (as did I), but the judge did not.
NQ, 2nd place.
Hey, we get to run in Open again, right? Right.
Novice Jumpers Harry
Hee hee hee hee hee hee hee and hee.
This was my kind of courseand it was Harry's too.
The opening was a four jump straight line to a tunnel, a pinwheel set of jumps to a tunnel, two jumps, left,
four jumps straight out.
SMOKIN'.
Harry handled the straight
line awesomely, leaving me at jump number three when he hit the tunnel. He did
have to get sucked into the tunnel right before the pinwheel, NQing him, but the
rest of the run was sooooooo much fun.
When I say Jumpers is my course, I mean it.
And my hair was on FIRE.
NQ, 3rd place
Open Jumpers Crumpie
..and the last course of this freakin' weekend.
I figured that since we had
spent a year in NADAC Open Jumpers without one Q, and yesterday Crumpie Qed for
his first leg out of two, that there was going to be no way we would Q on this
course.
The only thing to do was that
I was going to have fun, Crumpie was going to have a blast. A Q would be nice,
but I was being realistic.
The course was the same as the
Novice one, but slightly different. Four jumps straight to a
tunnel, pinwheel to the next tunnel, jump, sort of right jump, tunnel, four
jumps straight out. A lot of potential for a knocked bar.
I am already thinking of a
four jump lead out (where the handler leaves the dog on the start line and goes
outfour jumps then calls the dog.) I rarely do this as that potential for a
knocked bar goes waaaaaaaay up and this is Crumpie on the line.
As I am walking the course, I
hear, "where is Joyce?" My girlfriend Maureen is there and she asks me if I am
thinking 4 jump lead out. Yes and we slap hi-five on the deal. (Ironically,
Maureen changes her mind last second suddenly becoming competitive, but the
crowd is not with her. 4 jumps was the deal. She gets out to the third jump
when her dog breaks his stay. Her dog keeps all of those bars up, but drops one
later on in the course.)
Okie faokie, it is our turn.
I am so excited. I leave Crumpie on the line and walk out to the fourth jump.
I suddenly realize how crazy I am do be doing this, but I am here and now it has
to be. A deal is a deal. I turn my hand from the "stay" command to the "over"
command and call each "over" as Crumpie hauls over each one.
From my vantage point, it was
the most incredible sight to see the determination and drive on Crumpie's face
as he came over each and every jump. I wish I could share this with all of you,
but I cannot. This dog was determined, trust me. He hits the tunnel with the
four bars all still up.
We do the pinwheel of jumps,
and the tunnel. The next hardest part is that odd jump sequence of two
jumpsthat are on angles. I let Crumpie take the direct line of sight path and
he gets themand goes into the next tunnel. We have four jumps left and all of
the bars are still up.
Now I get serious. I hang
back and let Crumpie take each one so that he is over the line waaaaaaaay before
me. All of the bars stay up and
Q, 1st place and Open Jumpers Certificate Title for Crumpie.
If I thought my hair was gone
from Harry's run, Crumpie's torched my whole body.
Everyone clapped for Crumpie
and cheered and whistled when they announced our ribbon.
I like being back in Novice and Open. People still cheer you on.
For those who know and care:
Elaine and Nan - Qed with a 1st place in Open Gambles. This was also their title. (Open Gamblers Certificate) : )
Nan 5 point Qed on one of her Novice Standard runs with a 4th place.
Deb and Bianca were only entered in Novice Jumpers and they NQed, but..Deb did a FANSTASTIC job of
controlling Bianca's crazy dog actions. Deb looked as if she had been doing this for some time and that this was not her third run EVER. Congrats, Deb.
Mary and Tess NQed in their
runs as well. Tess already has her NAC (Novice title), but Mary wanted to stay
in Novice for herself. She entered Tess in Veterans Novice for the extra
practice. Nice job Mary even though these runs were NQs. : )
So there you guys all go. We
did have a great weekend and we actually Qed a whole bunch of times. Heck,
Crumpie even surprised me with our 13th title.
I am still back logged on
emails, so PLEASE do not feel insulted if I have not "fired" off a quick email
to you. Time management is the key and well, I have no time. Hang in there,
everyone.
I hope you all had a great
time this weekend because you know Crumpie and I did.
Joyce, not so sure this is Team Bean anymore.
