My Incubus BIOGRAPHY
THIS IS NOT THE OFFICIAL BIOGRAPHY! SOME THINGS MAY NOT BE 100% ACCURATE, BUT I'LL DO MY BEST SO THAT THEY ARE! THANKS TO INCUBUSATTACKS.COM FOR A LOT OF THE INFO THAT I DIDN'T KNOW BY HEART!
Member's Biographies:
Brandon*, Ben, Mike, Chris, Jose,
Alex (Dirk)
Incubus all started in Calabassas, California when Jose met Brandon in elementary school...Mike was introduced in grade 8, and he and Brandon did a report on Tahiti. Later, Jose  was introduced to Mike, who spent all of his free time playing guitar in his bedroom, due to a loss of a close friend in a car accident that Mike was involved in, but thankfully (and obviously) was not hurt! In Calabassas High School Mike and Jose ran into Alex Katunich who had just been kicked out of Jazz Band for not knowing how to read music (man, his teacher must be pissed now!). Mike, Jose and Alex jammed to mostly Mettalica and Megadeth covers, which Jose hated, but since he loved music, he played anyhow on a drum set given to him by Mike who's dad no longer needed it. They played a few parties and became known as the "entertainment for the neighbourhood." Eventually, the 3 guys discovered Brandon's amazing ability to sing and write music. So they took him in and wrote their first songs. For a party in 1991, when they were all 15, they decided it was time for a name. Brandon said it had to be gnarly, so Alex suggested Chunk-O-Funk and Chimera. Brandon suggested Spiral Staircase. Mike decided he'd get out his trusty thesaurus and found the word Incubus which had the word sex in the definition, so was it was immediatly decided to be the name. The party was a disaster, after Jose ran into his drum set and it crashed to the ground.
Thanks to Mike's ability to find $100 bills lying on the ground, they were able to buy enough tickets from a club at the Roxy and sell them to friends to have a real gig. Brandon drew flyers for the show, and due to the content (he took pictures from a sex-ed book, use your imagination) people were offended. They decided it best to leave the flyer-designing to someone else.
During Brandon and Jose's time at Moorpark Community College, Mike tried out for a band to play a new (Canadian) singer's music--Alanis Morrisette. Luckilly for us, not so lucky for her, Mike didn't make it. So they recorded their first demo tape called Closet Cultivation in 1994. A tour manager named Mark Shoffner approached Incubus with an offer. Incubus released their first "official" demo tape on January 7, 1995 (23 days before my birthday) and then 10 months later released their own CD
Fungus Amongus on their lable Stopuglynailfungus Music, on November 1.
DJ Lyfe approached Incubus asking if they'd like to try a DJ in their band. It was a great idea, but he wasn't. After signing with Immortal Records, they used him on an EP titled
Enjoy Incubus and the LP S.C.I.E.N.C.E., which was released September 9, 1997. Thanks to touring with Korn, Incubus won over thousands of fans. DJ Lyfe decided that because success was obviously a rotten thing, he'd stop coming to recordings and showing up for concerts. He couldn't take it so he was deliberatly trying to get kicked out of the best band around. His wish came true. In early 1998, he was replaced by a wonderfully talented DJ called Chris Kilmore, who was recommended by a friend of the band's..
They then released the beautiful
Make Yourself on October 26, 1999. They released the songs "Stellar" and "Pardon Me". Due to the wonderful success of the track "Pardon Me" Incubus went platinum on October 5, 2000. In January of 2001, Incubus let out their last song of the album, "Drive."  Eventually, Incubus released an EP titled When Incubus Attacks, Vol. 1.
Incubus moved into a mansion in Malibu to record their latest album, titled
Morning View after the street on which they lived while recording. Incubus release "Wish You Were Here" and "Nice To Know You," which helped their album go platinum. They also released "Warning" in the summer of 2002. After their last show on Halloween 2002 for Morning View, Incubus announced they were taking a break after almost 2 years straight of touring and promoting Morning View. They said they'd be writing music for their next album, due out sometime at the end of 2003, or the beginning of 2004.
On April 3, 2003, Brandon wrote a letter which he posted on
EnjoyIncubus, informing Incubus' fans and confirming rumours that Dirk had left the band. Apparently, he had left after their last concert. Ben Kenney, formerly of the Roots, replaced Dirk.
During the summer of 2003, Incubus travelled with the music festival Lollapalooza, along with a few other bands. On October 2, 2003, Incubus held a fan conference and discussed such things as the new album and Brandon's book,
White Fluffy Clouds. They announced that the new album was due out February 10, 2004.
