Hiking in Zao

Here are more pictures of the southern Zao region. The pictures were taken during my two visits to the area. One in summer and the other in early autumn.

Mt. Minami Byobu half shrouded in mist as viewed from Mt. Byobu. Both of these mountain peaks were over 1,800m and we were just above the clouds.

Mt. Fubo on the left with part of Mt. Minami Byobu on the right. Mt. Fubo is around 1,700m and looks are lot more impressive when viewed from Shiroishi City, down on the plains.

Yamashita-sensei on the trail and looking back towards Mt. Mae-yama at around 1,600m. Way in the distance just covered by mist is the Echoline Road. The day started off very foggy, but it cleared up as can be seen in the pictures above.

When I went hiking in this area again in early autumn. The day started off fine, but by the time we got to our third peak, the weather had closed in and we were enveloped in fog, like in the photo below.

One good looking fella (with his wet weather back on) somewhere on the way to the top of Mt. Fubo.

In Mt. Eboshi at almost 1,700m, struggling to be seen above a sea of cloud and mist, as viewed from Mt. Byobu.

Two unidentified mountains (meaning I can't read the Japanese kanji on my map) in the sourthern Zao area as seen from Mt. Byobu.

The southern Zao mountains in the late afternoon as the tendrils of mist begin covering the mountains again.
