| I would like to start by explaining the image to the left of your screen which was the first to pop up on a google search of �barber�. Although the barber is a female in this photo, defying the gender stereotype that the riddle played on, she is an extremely hyper-sexualized African female. I mention that she is African because African and African American women are often the targets of hypersexual objectification. Furthermore, it is my opinion she is also being dehumanized by being an object of sexual desire for a dog in the background of the photo. | ||||||||
| Dehumanization is a strong influence underlying discrimination, and should never be used as it is in this image. This image is a dramatic illustration of stereotypes, not only with respect to gender, but also to race. Unfortunately, exposure to stereotypes such as the ones in the photo can create subconscious biases known as implicit biases. Implicit biases based on stereotypes of gender likely made this a difficult riddle for most people to solve.
