Christine Ward
As an artist I did not have the luxury of formal training. Rather, I have been creating art from the time I was old enough to hold a pencil. I would draw and sew and sculpt with salt dough, although now, I mainly focus on painting.
It was in the beginning stages of my mental illness (schizophrenia) that I gleefully discovered my ability to express myself through painting and actually be appreciated for it!! I was addicted to the art form from then on. I have now been painting for 8 years.
Please enjoy the slideshow below. These are pictures from each of the four galleries.

More history
Painting, for me, was at first a world of self expression, then escape, and later therapy for me. Now that I am more emotionally stable (although I still occasionally experience the traits of mental illness; such as hallucinations and emotional things), I paint for the sheer beauty and joy that God has placed in my heart. Yes, I am beautiful (after all God doesn't make junk), whimsical, but like anyone else, sometimes sad or confused. Whoever said only joy and whimsy are beautiful was wrong though, for there is also beauty in our sadness and confusion, for it is pain that chisels away at us people, each and everyone a diamond in the rough. Besides, without sadness and/or confusion we could not truly appreciate the good times, for as in contrasts in artworks, defining the subjects, so contrasts in our personalities create beautiful, complex personalities, defining people, showing the very root of people.
I hope that when people view my artwork, they will relate in a way all human kind should. Art should be something that knows no gender, race, age, or medical deformities (such as mental illness or handicap.) I have fans as young as 4 and up to the age of 96. People of different races, religions, incomes, and mental states enjoy my work. This is as it should be. I see it as a gift of myself to the world around, and hope that all who see it will enjoy the journey of life with me, through my works, as they realize that somehow, we all have the same wonderful Creator, and are connected, through this voyage through life.
