Lesson Plan Report

INTRODUCTION

The lesson is a part of a nine-month project and so after I had reviewed the various type of chemicals used in sheep breeding, I asked the students to search for information about two of them. I divided them into groups (there are 38 students). We had just 16 computers; so I made 10 groups of 2 students each and 6 groups of 3 students each. The students downloaded the relevant information about the chemicals and saved them in the hard drive. They also saved promptly as instructed.

SUCCESSES AND CHALLENGES

The students were quite eager to explore the net but only four computers were connected. I downloaded some relevant WebPages unto the various computers for them to use and this really helped to do something tangible within limited time. Some students were not familiar with information technology at all so I had to regroup with the more advanced students serving as their tutor; while I supervise.

CLASSROOM ORGANIZATION AND LOGISTICS

I made adequate preparation before the class and so the set up was quite okay but lack of adequate Internet connection dampened their enthusiasm. Since we focussed largely on the little resources we could work with, the students managed to finish their work within the time frame.

SUGGESTED CHANGES

I will make sure the students are quite familiar with IT, Internet and computer literacy generally. I will also implore the school administration to improve on the connectivity of the other computers and networking.

FEEDBACK

Involving students in this way of learning is really challenging and at the same time refreshing. The students started to ask questions and comment on the lesson and they hoped many of their topics would be handled this way.

ASSESSMENT

Oral discussion about what they have learnt and discovered took place during the last 10mins of the lesson. The test carried out showed how well they understood and enjoyed the lesson. They were all eager to do the test. Students really learn better with the use of technology.
