| Saturday, August 23: Wake up time: 8:30 a.m.. Hours of sleep before con: 2 Costume: Embla von Prios [War of Genesis III], LeBlanc [Final Fantasy X-2] Merchandise purchased or otherwise acquired: Megatokyo Vol.1 Summerberry drink?: Can't remember...probably not. Day report was written: Monday, May 31st (2004 :P) Day report was posted: Monday, May 31st Report: A busy, but slightly foggy, day This will be short because this day's pretty hazy for me to reflect back on. Woke up early, as usual, and made it to the convention with a bag full of costume stuff. I wore Embla again so I could get pics with Aubz, Les and Jen, but we didn't get very many of them. Dan was supposed to have his War of Genesis costume as well, but he couldn't fix it on time. I think Kurai was sick during this con, so she wasn't present in her Ashurei costume either, unfortunately. I got to see Kisa and Xiola's Megatokyo costumes, which made me very happy. Considering they were usually surrounded by a ring of photographers, I didn't get much time to chat, but I at least got to say hello as I snapped a picture of my own. SMA was wearing their Square-Enix costumes, which looked fantastic, but I felt a little left out since I wasn't in my matching costume. I'm rather glad I wasn't, though, because in retrospect I wouldn't have wanted to spent an entire day in a costume I couldn't move very well in. The Embla costume did get some photographs, but to this day I have a lot of trouble finding pictures from this convention. There are a couple of notable photographs of it, one taken by Ikegami and one that ended up on my digicam (probably taken by Brian). They're both in my Embla costume page. I was busy all day, so I didn't really get much to eat. When someone showed up with a whole carton of fries, the girls and I leaped upon it with a vengeance. That was during the line-up for the masquerade check-in. I ended up changing into LeBlanc a little while before and posed for a few photos. I've been told that showing skin = more photographs, but didn't find that the case, really. Everyone was very nice about it and the costume was very comfortable, aside from the slight paranoia about the carpet tape. Yes, that's all that was holding me into that costume and yes, I know I don't have the best body type for it. Before I get on to the masquerade, I do believe Saturday was the day I met Fred (Piro) and Sarah (Seraphim) of Megatokyo fame. They were very nice and seemed quite interested in coming up to Canada again. Fred drew me a little Belphegore in my copy of Megatokyo and it looked so darn cute. ^_^ This was my first convention as part of SMA and it went pretty well, except that I learned that my suspicions were true: planning and SMA just don't go together. Our "skit" (really, a glorified walk-on) was planned in the greenroom. It went well anyway, mostly thanks to the dancing skills of the guys. I felt really awkward on stage, but I went up with Winnie and the stage ninja ushering us on was Hot!Neo, so it was all good. Oh yes, to digress for a minute...There was a costumer dressed up as Neo (there were actually a few, but this one stood out in particular) that really caught my eye. This guy will forever be known to me as Hot!Neo. That is all I need to say on the subject =P Oh, and there was a cosplayer whose outfit I really liked...A beautiful black dress with gold detailing. Later found out she was cosplaying Helena from Dead or Alive (I think?). Really, really nice costume. ^_^ Back to the masquerade...Apparently there were people in the audience shouting not-so-polite things at Winnie and I, but I didn't really notice. The theatre's seating was really distracting, since normally these masquerades just have the audience sitting in a room. We won the award for Best Group in the Artisan division, but despite the happiness of winning, I was pretty unhappy afterwards. Aside from the one award with WUSS at Anime North, I'd never won an award, so to win one at the Artisan level really felt like I'd just tail-coated my way up and like I had been a weak link rather than a contributing factor. We went to dinner afterwards at Harvey's and I dropped my digital camera, causing a piece of it to pop out of the casing. Kind of disconcerting and it made me feel even worse. Went to the karaoke and all-night anime, but we didn't stay for long. I thought a lot about the previous year when I was there just because, well, that night pretty much represented how I felt about the con in general. So Saturday was a mixed bag, really, and I was still wishy-washy about dishing out $30 to get autographs from the Matrix Twins. |
