Report: A sleepy, silent day at the con

     I just wrote up half my con report, then Word crashed and didn't auto-recover any of my document.  -_-  That's incredibly annoying, but that's what happens when I type so quickly and my comp is a piece of junk.  I'll try to recreate it as it was originally written, but keep in mind that the original is always better in the case of stream-of-consciousness typing like this.

     Getting to the con was quite a bit more complicated than it should have been.  I went to Shoppers Drugmart to get last minute supplies for the con, which set me back thirty dollars.  As a result, I was broke at the con and had zero money after paying for the admission...*sighs*

     After the shopping trip and a trip to try and get myself a blonde wig (proved fruitless, unfortunately), I had a total of fifteen minutes to get into costume.  I didn't do a very good job on this costume, which I only fully realised once I had put it on.  I felt like I'd done such a half-assed job on the entire thing and was really disappointed with myself, as I'm sure everyone else was, considering how awful it looked.  This was pretty much confirmed by the lack of people who wanted a picture.  I didn't get any picture of myself in costume, since I was too shy to ask anyone to take pictures for me, so there won't be too many pics to put on my website, which might be fortunate, considering how awful it looked.  *sighs*  At least I got to handle Keith's sword for the day, though I was pretty paranoid about it, considering most cons are quite sticky about the security issue of real metal weapons.

     I got to meet the "ISA" (for lack of a better name to call them...) people almost as soon as Keith and I got there.  If we hadn't run into Karen, Ivan, Greg, Val, Macs (weren't you introduced as Bob at the Playdium? =P) and Kim (sorry if I screwed up any names...I tend to do that) in the line-up, we would've had to go to the end...which was way, WAY far out of sight down the long corridor and around the corner, stretching all the way back around that half of the convention centre.  I had great fun poking Ivan and Greg, who are both way cute when poked. ^^  They both pretend they're evil, but dammit, when you're that amusing when poked, you're not evil. =P

     The limited edition print this time was very nice, just like last year, but I think I liked this year's better.  Maybe it's because I'm not so much into mechs and pretty girl...I really like the sketchy style of this and the nice group pose and all.  If I get a chance, I'll scan in my print (#687/1000) and put it here.  I didn't get one of those packages, unfortunately (the freebie they always give out at cons..the "goody bag").  Oh well, there probably wasn't much in there that I wanted, anyway.

     The Dealer's room was surprisingly empty, even though the lines for tickets and entrance into the con were at least three times as long as last time.  At least the ticket line moved along fiarly quickly, though.  The other line didn't start moving until well past four, which was strange, since the con was supposed to start at four.  But once we got up the escalators (not the big ones in the middle this time...They were the ones at the end of the North building), the floor was...devoid of people.  Seriously, I've never seen a Dealers' Room that empty before, except for maybe the Sunday of Anime North.  Weird as all hell, considering how many people poured up those escalators.  I don't know if it was just me, but the area covered by booths seemed smaller than last year by a bit.  I was disappointed again with the selection.  They had only one weapon booth, but more anime than last time (most was DVDs, though, which meant they were way otu of my price range, which was zero anyway, since I was broke...Why the hell does lipstick cost so much?!  I just needed it for ONE costume, dammit...).

     I didn't start taking pictures until after watching the X TV "premiere" (since I've already seen up to episode 16 and have seen the beginning eps more than once already, it was hardly a premiere to me. ^^;)  I only got twenty six pictures today, but that's an amazing number, considering how few I got at the con last year, due to the fact that a roll of film only has so many pictures.

     Speaking of the X premiere, I discovered that Karen's more of a yaoi fangirl than I am.  lol.  The official DVD seems to be a hell of a lot more suggestive than the fansubs were...Calling Yuuto a pimp who looks like he's from the red-light district?  Sorata and Yuuto joking about thrashing around together in the kekkai?  Omg...lol...You could hear the collective snickering and laughing of all the yaoi fangirls in the audience.  Chibi-Kamui is SO cute! *^^*

     After the premiere, we stood in the corridor waiting for a while before we went to dinner, so I got several pictures of cosplayers walking by. Unfortunately, I didn't manage to stop Boxed Rice Productions (I think that's Vikki's group's name?), since they walked by while I was taking someone else's pic. >.<;  I'm so glad I have a digital camera...I don't have to worry about running out of film, the flash turns on automatically, the pictures are super high quality and I can dispose of dud pictures and take new ones!  The only problem is that the batteries are constantly running out.  I missed quite a few cosplayers, though.  T_T  I didn't get ANY of the super cool Gravitation cosplayers running around, nor did I get the Garnet and Dagger (?) cosplayers, nor did I get the Michael from Angel Sanctuary with the huge wings, nor did I get the trio of outer senshi that I was so impressed with at Anime North.  *sighs*  And I only managed to get pictures of three of the many Chiis walking arond.  =\  Maybe I'll have better luck tomorrow, though they might all be in different costumes by then!  I also missed the Gundam cosplayers, including the one I keep calling Trowa, since he was Trowa at CNAnime last year and at Anime North this year.  Dammit, I keep running into you everywehre, Trowa, and you're one of the very few people who stop to talk to me, but I never get your picture!  >.<!!!  Your uniform looked so cool. ^_^

     X turned out to be the only I got to see today.  Too bad. =\  Maybe I'l have better luck tomorrow.

     I didn't get her autograph, but I saw Nichele Nichols (sp/) from ST: TOS.  She's so amazing...I was in awe just looking at her. ^^;

     Ran into Eric (ikegami), or rather, he ran into Keith and I when we were sitting, bored out of our minds, behind the main escalators.  So nice that we recognised each other.  I was afraid I wouldn't, since most of the time I saw him in his moogle suit at AN.  It was very nice being able to talk to you face to face.  I'm just sorry that we got separated in the dealers' room, since I had every intention of bugging you by hanging around with you. *^^*  However, I got distracted by this gorgeous Kimahri model.  I really, really want it, but I have no money and it's $60.  *sighs*  I wonder if I can find out whichplace was selling it and see if they have a location in Toronto...That's the first official model I've really felt drawn to.  I've never played the game and don't know much about the character, but for some reason, I feel a
connection to Kimahri and that model just stuck out so much.  I've never even considered spending that much on anything, except for the X: Zero artbook (that was because X is sort of my trademark series).  If I had money, I think I would buy it.  It serves no practical purpose, but...wow...*sighs*

     Once again, I didn't have the courage to actually talk to Kisa & co.  T_T  Your costumes just amaze me so much.  You make such a cute Hokuto and Louise (that was Louise, right? ^^;) makes a great Subaru.  ^_^  I was wondering when I'd get to see Subaru and Hokuto and I was pleasantly surprised to see ye two in those costumes. ^^  That's such a great series.  I'm glad to see people do justice to it through cosplay.

     I was also a bit shy when it came to meeting Mekou-chan and Jay ohki from the SMA message board.  You two are just so cool and friendly...*^^*  I wanted to give you a hug, Mekou-chan, but I was way too shy, which is also why I didn't say much.  Thanks for the hug, Jay...You don't know how much that meant to me.  I hope you didn't hurt your back having to bend down that much...lol.  I'm so short and you're so tall. ^^

     We stayed until the con closed the staff was eager to kick us out.  But there was a bit of a long wait at the Kirby Morrow autograph line-up and so naturally it took a while for everyone to be assembled and ready to head out.  Oh well, I'm looking forward to tomorrow.  I didn't go to anime all-night and karaoke tonight, since I was exhausted, figured I should sleep to prepare for a long day and an early wake-up tomorrow, was well aware of the fact that Keith needed to get back to Whitby (yes, he lives in Whitby, so go stalk him now XP) and I wanted to write this con report up.  ^^;  Had a very...interesting...ride home, but I don't think I want to say more than that.  *sweatdrops*

I'm very nervous about tomorrow with the masq. and lunch and photoshoots and all, but at the same time I'm terribly excited.  I just hope everything comes together as planned. *^^*

Woohoo!  It's nice having a con report posted the same day as the day being reported.  Close to real time as ye can get.  ^^;
