Day 2: Day of the AMV's and Masquarade!

Bardiel phoned me at an obscenely late time to tell me that she didn't want me to get something she'd prevoiusly said she wanted (try saying that ten times fast!)...the conversation didn't last long, but the real problem was that afterward I couldn't get to sleep.  So, this morning I woke up after having six hours of sleep, at the most, which isn't exactly a good thing for recovery from a long day on Friday.

I wore my full costume getup on the subway today...and people in the droves stared at me; I felt awful.  Bardiel's in Nova Scotia, but I went with Yukito today.  We watched "Sumari X: Trust", which is really number one and two of the "Rurouni Kenshin" OAVs.  I'd seen number 2 before (since I own it), but Yukito hadn't seen any.  Unlike the TV series, it was excellent (and Kenshin didn't look like a girl! *cheers*).  We also saw the premier of "Angelic Layer", which was amusing, but, unfortunately, was in raw Japanese.  Since no one was fluent in Japanese (or, at least, didn't offer to translate), some rather strange people sitting behind us started making up what was happening and providing bits of dialogue.  This was amusing at first, but when the comments became rather rude and inappropriate, we left.  Oh! I forgot...after we watched Kenshin, we watched the end of the second last episode, followed by the last episode, of the series "Cowboy Bebop".  Ever since I saw a brilliant music video (which won awards at both AN '01 and CNAnime '01) using clips from that series, I've been intersted in seeing it.  However, seeing the last two episodes was a bit of a spoiler. ^^;  ALso saw the first two "Record of Lodoss War" OVAs, which I'd been dying to see (damn that TV show!).

What else did we see?  Well, we were going to watch "Blood: The Last Vampire", but it was cancelled and replaced by something else (No, I can't remember what)...we were also going to watch "Sin: The Movie", but we couldn't find seats, so we ended up watching "Adolescence of Utena", even though I own a fansubbed copy and have watched it a half dozen times already.  It was in raw Japanese, so the great line up that originally had been there thinned out to a regular crowd after the first five minutes.  A really, really cool guy dressed as Akio admitted he knew the entire script and offered to translate line-by-line for everyone!  He got up and found a microphone and we were off!  He even translated one of the songs!  It was amazing!  I'd taken a picture of him earlier because I absolutely adored his costume (it takes a
lot to make a Shoujo Kakumei Utena costume work) and I got the impression that he was a really nice guy; what happend at the movie showing confirmed it.  Everyoen was so grateful to him, including Yukito and I ^_^.  When he got up there, I started chanting feverishly to Yukito: "Akio-sama!  Akio-sama GO Akio-samaaaaaaa!!!" *embarrassed* *doesn't usually exhibit fangirl-ish behavious about anything other than X manga*  If anyone knows anything at all about him, send me his email address!!! ^^;;;;;;;;;;;;;;  Hee hee.

Aaaaanyway, not as many pictures taken of me and I saw two other Tifas.  Some of my friends encouraged me to enter the Masquerade (nerves about that were a factor in keeping me awake 'til all hours) and I was really gonig to, but unforeseen scheduling difficulties kept me from it.  You see, they had the brilliance to schedule the check-in time for the masquerade competitors at exactly the same time as the AMVs were supposed to show.  So, I missed out...besides, I didn't want to end up being the third TIfa in the competition ^^; ; it would've made them seem less original and wouldn't have been fair to them.  The Masquerade was brilliant, though the music videos were, for the most part, awful.  They only showed the winners and the runner-up for the Overall title, but the ones I enjoyed were the ones I saw already at Anime North.  Maybe they'll be better for next year (and maybe they won't schedule it the same day as the Masquerade! *fume*)

I'm tired and exceedingly sore right now...plus, I just finished dinner and I'm writing this at quarter to eleven at night; I really should be asleep.  I was determined to buy something and after seeing the cool DVDs at the showings of the anime we saw, I decided I'd splurge and buy myself a DVD!  Yeah, a really, really expensive decision, but I guess it's alright, since that was the only thing I bought for myself.  I bought "Mahou Tsukai Tai!", the first DVD, since it was less expensive than the other series I was considering and it's the anime that bears the same name as my new anime club.  THat's right, I founded (technically, my friends and I are all co-founder, but I'm the head of the club) an anime club at my school and called it Mahou Tsukai Tai (Magic User's Club).  *sigh* I still have to catch up on everything before I get some sleep and I hope I do fall asleep tonight.  Oh, one last thing...the guy who wanted my photo yesterday?  I didn't run into him today, unfortunately, but maybe he got a picture of the other two Tifas?
